Class of 2024 ATH Malachi James (NJ) COMMITTED / SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (2/7/24)

don’t get me wrong, like this kids speed and upside, just surprised he was a take given our scholarship situation. Seems like a similar type player to Ja’Meer Thomas who is also in this class
Well we were actively recruiting Kevyn Humes as a DB so we definitely had a spot for another high school DB they liked.

His highlights are insane...comical amount of speed. Definitely worth a flyer, he's got a ton of upside! His QB doesn't seem to have a great arm either which definitely would have contributed to him being under the radar

He was offered at the end of December and committed to the Orange following his visit. None of that was made public, however, as he waited until National Signing Day to make his intentions known.

"Coach Fran said he didn't want anybody in his business," James said. "He wanted to keep it a surprise until signing day. It was important for me to gain his trust right away. I think it was a test and I passed."

Definitely not a school known for producing P4 talent. At a minimum you have a return guy with elite speed here.

Similar profile to Trebor Pena as a high school recruit.
I think another fair comparison would be Sean Riley.

Here is his commitment video...its certainly something. Production value off the charts! Love it
Off the charts is stating it mildly. Wow...just wow.

Yup

What is a competitive high school 100m time?
At the state competition level, most states will have a 100m final where the winner goes 10.5 and the other 7 finish between 10.6 and 10.9. Sprint powerhouse states like California, Texas, and Florida routinely have finals filled with 10.2 to 10.5 guys with the occasional superstar going 10.0x. 2. 0.

10.9-11.0 guys will win a majority of HS meets in the North. Tenths below that are exponentially harder to drop. 10.4-10.5 is usually state champ and, as you'd alluded, "Southern" fast.

Not sure where this gentleman projects but he should be returning kicks if nothing else which I love the idea of return specialists.
