Recruiting has picked up considerably over the last few year but this year's class still has a long way to go before they sign. There are three things I can see other coaches using to flip the key guys in this years class.

Potential coaching change - I think Shafer stays unless this year is a complete disaster.

Wins - obviously a big one - but there are enough 50/50 games this year to think it is reasonable to see SU surprising somewhat.

Attendance - the key in my opinion - SU has taken some solid recruits from schools with great game day atmospheres - a Dome with a ton of empty seats is an easy target for other coaches to recruit against - I understand that a decade of mostly bad home games has left local fans discouraged but SU has to find a way to fill the Dome to at least some reasonable capacity - give away tickets - anything - to easy to recruit against when the really good recruits from non-traditional recruiting geographies with options from "bigger" football schools see a half empty Dome - especially when others start to question their decision.

Just my opinion.

I won't argue your premise, because attendance matters. But I don't think the majority of our recruits are signing on for the "game day experience" they are coming here to be a family, they believe in the message we are sending and want to help bring us back to prominence on the field. With that idea, fan support and a more full dome will come later. That's just the logical progression of understanding.

Doesn't mean we won't lose a kid later, just that the kids we have signed on I doubt will flip if we have 33-38k in the dome all year.

Keep in mind Robert Washington and Moe Neal both visited for the FSU game and were impressed...

Attendance is down across the country. I don't care about the number, it's more about the noise from the people that are there. The dome can still be very loud with 35000 people.

These guys are coming here b/c they are going to play very quickly and be focal points. i think the recruiters have been able to sell them on that component in addition to making them feel wanted and part of a family, like you noted.

The attendance situation i'm not concerned with at all. We get hung up on the number. Dome is loud full or not full. It's unique either way.

With nooners in the second and third weeks, it doesn't set up well for a good attendance year. Hopefully we're winning and playing well for a prime-time spot against LSU.

Beyond excited and READY!!

Not sure when you and yours are heading up but I'll likely be bringing my Central PA voice up late Thursday night or early in the day Friday. May well pass or be passed by you on 81 depending on who's adrenaline is flying higher.

haha!! Heading up early Friday! Maybe see ya at Fine Mess :)

Free beer and a pee trough reserved for season ticket holders would also help immensely. :p

A single trough for like 20K people? Hope you guys can squeeze together tightly.

Aw man...you guys are getting me excited again. I've been staying pretty calm then I see this thread while at dinosaur bbq. Not fair. Green gravel is a fine substitute for grass by the way.

Coming up from NYC for the Wake game...booked the Sheraton this afternoon...wasn't loving the alumni presale that went on today so held off on tix..been a few years since last seeing a football game at the Dome...went to Notre Dame last year at MetLife... taking the day off on Friday to get up there and enjoy the day, hang around town, etc. Should be a good time and a good win.

Just win, baby.

Syracuse is a "Vinnie Johnson" town with football right now. When its cold (losing or just being so ugly), the support is not there. We start 3-0 and this place is going to be a boiling powder keg actually thinking we could 1991 Florida to LSU in late September.

I would not want to play Syracuse in a rocking Carrier Dome. It's kind of on the team and staff now to do that. It just is.

And you know what...it would be pretty damn awesome if they can do it. I dont think HCSS is getting any dumber so hope is there.

I think we get around 35 000 for the opener, around the same for CMU, and I believe LSU will be a near sellout with lots of that ugly purple in the stands.

You need tickets with a Fine Mess Pass for Wake? I have some for sale...less than Face.
