Auburn fires Gus Malzahn / hires Bryan Harsin

When you have a coach winning 2/3 of their games on average (with some seasons a bit better/worse) and you think you are capable of more... it’s almost always better to invest in the program infrastructure (Staff, facilities, training, nutrition, housing, operations etc) than go coach hopping.

There is a reason certain programs on average are winning and others not, not matter of the coaching carousel. This is not 100% true but I think it’s true more often than not.

So, if you are a program that has decided you want to compete for conference championships (and even CFP births) and you haven’t been that type of program in the past, get a coach you believe in and relentlessly upgrade your infrastructure consistantly over the course of 5-10 years until you are top 1/3 of P5 and your results will almost assuredly follow.

I don’t believe you need to be top 10 in infrastructure to compete, but if you’re not top 1/3 of the peer group you are trying to compete with, then you found where the money should be spent (probably not on another buyout and another overpriced ‘name’ coach)

This seems aggressive and ambitious and something that was not warranted based on the results.

That said, I will not come down on a school and an administration that looks at underperformance and says, you know what, we deserve better. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. But believing your program can and should deliver more is a trait to be admired. At least in contrast to the alternative of defeatism and complacency.

There are three all time college teams: Alabama, ND, Michigan

If Auburn thinks they're on par with them they are fools.
Not on par, but a big enough program to compete with the big boys. And they take winning seriously. Either sit back and die a slow death in mediocrity or try for better. Auburn tries for better

Sorry, if you try to punch up to this level you will fail.

Bama and Auburn aren't even remotely close into all time programs.

I guess you're going back to when they didn't wear helmets. Why isn't Army on your list?

Michigan is the all time leader in college football wins. If you want to include OSU, you need to include the old time as well.

Mich > OSU in all time college football teams. Not saying OSU is swiss cheese. Talking about all time programs in regarding to Malzahn.

OSU is #2 all time in terms of wins and more importantly has the highest winning percentage in NCAA history.

They are still not Michigan.

The top three teams of all time are ND, Bama and Michigan.

Not sure why this is an argument during a post about Malzahn.

You're wrong OSU has more wins than Bama or ND.

Ohio State is holding on Line 1.

Oklahoma, as well. Which is the greatest team in the history of the AP Poll.

I keep waiting for our fans who think Dino should be fired to post how large of a check they sent to JW for the buyout. Waiting...waiting...crickets. Folks we are not Auburn. We are not dropping $15 to $20m on a buyout. So howl at the moon all you want. You all should be happy to hear that JW is finding donors to upgrade additional elements of our program.

Hasn't Michigan won like absolutely nothing championship wise compared to the others?

One split title (1997) since 1948. They're similar to SU basketball in the sense that they're almost always good, very rarely bad, but just not many titles in recent history.

You're wrong OSU has more wins than Bama or ND.

And less titles. Are you drunk? What does this have to do with Malzahn?

Let me re-state. Bama and ND are the top two college football programs of all time. Here is who is not a top two program - Auburn.

Is that clear enough?

Ohio State, USC belong on that list as well IMO.

lol you're a hoot. You state that Michigan, Bama and ND are the all-time programs and I provide u stats that clearly contradict that as OSU is #2 in wins and #1 in all time winning percentage and with eight national titles. Whatever dude, carry on.

You provide stats for wins, not a subjective evaluation where I put in titles. But congrats on using "dude" in a post.

Princeton and Yale are the top 2 programs of all time.

All time is a long time.

Last 30 years or so is probably a better window into football as it currently exists.
