Auburn fires Gus Malzahn / hires Bryan Harsin

South Carolina fans are likely swearing up-and-down Internet forums and beyond that they hired Beamer with Gus being out there.
Same for even a job like Arkansas State.
Malzahn is from Arkansas and coached Arkansas State.

He will have a chance at Sun Belt, southern ACC or SEC job.

If he goes somewhere else, and makes 3 million a year, is Auburn on the hook for the rest? I have no idea how this works. Do they just cut him a $21 million check?

Depends on the terms of his contract. Some are written so that they only owe the difference between what he makes in his new job and the $21M. Others are written that he gets the $21M free and clear.

Depends on how good your lawyer is, I guess. :)

There's some times a good faith clause in these contracts where the fired coach has to look for future employment opportunities to collect the buyout, and their future salary amount is deducted from the buyout. That's why you see a lot of these fired HCs end up as analysts. This meets their good faith requirements, and at the same time allows them to collect the full buyout.

per Footballscoop, he gets the full amount, regardless of his next job.

Auburn is going to be a hard job as long as Saban coaches Alabama.
Without being the in-State rival of the 1000 lb. beast they play Georgia every year as well.

Once Saban is gone and Alabama becomes more beatable this job is good.

Always going to be the standard the coach is held too.

They need the next Mike Shula era, as soon as possible.

Michigan is the all time leader in college football wins. If you want to include OSU, you need to include the old time as well.

Mich > OSU in all time college football teams. Not saying OSU is swiss cheese. Talking about all time programs in regarding to Malzahn.
Well if you’re including old time put Yale on your list. They have twice as many National titles as Michigan

Edit: just saw all the Yale replies lol

They need to go full on Tennessee Vol/Schiano mode and be agents of change.

I think any job in the West is going to be tough because of Saban, maybe in the SEC east too.
All these programs think they should be in Alabama's spot but there can only be one King - just like Spurrier was when he was at Florida.

Going to be interesting to see how much patience Georgia has with Kirby and A&M has with Fisher if they cannot knock Saban off the hill.

Why? He's 55. In the next 5 years he could bank 60 plus million. Why wouldn't you?

How much money do you need? 20 million is not enough? So, you need $60 million? I'm retired and have nowhere near $20 million. Would I go back to work for any amount of money? Not on your life!

I'd take all of it, until I hit about 60...lol. 40 more million? Yes, please.
