--- I can't believe that i should take that long. Regardless of his back-off comment,I think he shows quite a bit this coming season. Of course I'm presuming that he gets some of the types of players he wants t do thisWR and QB wise.He has some OL players that look solid. A couple more won't hurt.

He said midway through year two - it clicks.

Think about this; he comes in and is coaching players that have been learning other systems and frost that are relatively clueless. They get the basics and the heart and soul of the offense but it really doesn't flesh out sometime until the second year where there is more doing at practice and less teaching.

I thought he said it took a year and half.

I remember G-Rob installing the "west coast offense" which was said to take 5 years to learn. At a four year college.

He also said he will use a system in the meantime that works for the players he has. I think that system will be close enough. Also as said above, look at what he did with only 2 years at other schools. So maybe 3 years until we compete for the ACC title!!! 1 year for a mediocre bowl. 2 years for a decent bowl!!

That's not really practical for a college environment. Most players don't even get playing time for 3 years. I think it may be kind of coach speak and trying to temper expectations. I think back to when Brian Kelly took over at UC from Mark Dantonio and actually coached the team in a bowl game shortly after being hired. Two very different coaches with 2 very different offensive philosophies. But Kelly made an eye opening statement saying "The playbook is not really that different. It's the play calling that's different. Most of the plays I'll call are in Mark's playbook, they probably have different names and may have a little dust on them but they are they and the players know them." That is kind of what I expect next year. I doubt we'll see much we've never seen because lets face it SU has used a multitude of formations, motion and plays the past several years ( remember the keyword: "multiple"?!). We'll just see a different mix of plays in the various game situations. Eg. We've seen a lot of 4 wide formations, but probably not often on 3rd and 1.

What is worrisome is the talent disparity between us and the other ACC schools. I'm not even talking about FSU and Clemson, I think we are significantly below even middle of the pack ACC schools. The difference with the MAC is that most of the teams all have basically the same level of talent...

Bowling Green , Toledo and NIU are the powers in the MAC and have a significant talent advantage relative to the rest of that league.

I think it's tempo + system that takes that 1.25 years to really see clicking. I'm expecting fits and starts on the way to our best offensive output since 2012 ... by a mile.
