Just went again to Detroit Free Press and Orlando Sentinel and using their search tool put in Syracuse and racism and syracuse racism and nothing. Ironically both UCF and Michigan St had articles. Wonder how that effects their recruiting? Zero.

huh? how did we get to mass shootings? Some of you guys live in a bubble. I can drive through the University of Georgia campus and see a confederate flag. In March of 2019 they had fraternity supspended over a racism issue with a video. Yet Georgia's football recruiting class is ranked #6. just saying.

In a few days they’ll be on to their next sensationalist story.

I gave some reasons for believing that it’ll will have no impact on recruiting and it won’t. I’m sure some coach will try to use it but at the end of the day it won’t hurt.

i have no idea if it will impact a recruit or if it won’t. But I don’t think you realize what it’s been like on campus and the publicity it’s getting. Especially with the manifesto much more so than the graffiti. The national media will move on eventually. But there will still be stories and they could impact things and even more so are things like the Facebook pages. There are plenty of parents of prospective students that read those pages. We did. Many we know who’s kids were considering SU did. The school tells you about them when you’re considering the school. A couple of them have very detailed posts from current parents about the scare. The manifesto really upped the fears. It was a manifesto used by a killer who shot and killed 50 people. While it appears the manifesto was just a scare tactic it put real fear in students and parents. Then when the hoax attack on BBB hit, people went nuts. Students refusing to leave their room. Students crying. Parents coming to take their kids home. All detailed on these Facebook pages. Who knows if recruits parents look at that stuff like many parents do. But no matter how fake some of this stuff may be a hoax, the fears were/are real.

And BTW, many athletes have shown their support to the protesters and some have even shown up. That could also have a ripple effect.

We’ll never know if a prospect didn’t choose SU because of this stuff.

For the students you know... What was their reaction? Did their Mothers call them up bawling? The ones I know did.

If you want to say it's been over hyped? OK. I don't believe anyone should give into fear, either. Easier said than done. I have zero problem with the reporting.

How about we all at least agree that it can't help in our recruiting. For sports or for our general school population. If you were a dad (you are) and your kid was between Syracuse and Maryland,might this tilt in Maryland's favor? I think it would. It's tough for some of us to understand because we love Syracuse( at least i do). People tell me that when I go back to campus, I'm a bit different. Happier. But we can't be fair judge's on what a kid or a parent who doesn't have the ties to Syracuse that we do.

It may or may not have. While we didn't have anyone come out and say straight out that the incident is making them decommit or it was the reason why they chose to go to another school, we don't know what may have been said about it in family discussions that influenced the recruits' decisions.

This is not an SU problem. It's an individual problem happening at SU.
Do kids feel safe at VA Tech? Seemingly so.

Exactly... I keep hearing that the school and administration need to do something... what else can they really do? I think they've brought in the proper authorities, and have let the students have their free speech and protest. SU is one of, if not the most, diverse private university in the US. It's unfortunate that a few cockroaches, and a couple of loud protestors can really bring down the reputation of the university.

Bathroom graffiti? There’s been a lot more than that. I guess you missed the racial slurs, the swastika, the White supremacist manifesto and the nasty email sent today to a Jewish SU professor. I might even be missing a few things. BTW, CBS radio in NY sent a reporter to Syracuse. The problem here is that SU let a story about graffiti get out of hand to the point where it became a regional/national story that led to copycats.

This manifesto has taken it to another level. Once these guys are caught, and I firmly believe they will be, hopefully, things will calm down and the school will be able to sell this as a past event. I guess I haven't seen the 'new' events because I haven't see it publicized on much more than local news and hadn't made the rounds. But back to the main point of the thread which was, will there be an the 'impact on recruiting'. I say none.
