they are first in the country in rushing yards and second in passing yards

i know they haven't played anyone yet (although I still maintain UB is not bad) but I don't care - that is completely amazing

they have almost 25% more yards than Oregon

amazing to think that people used to think you couldn't run out of a spread out shotgun offense

WVU's defense had been playing ok to good, it was their offense that was a mess.

What makes Baylor so impressive to me is that they're back doing it again, without RGIII. There are some offensive minds who can't get the magic back when they lose a star player. The ones who can plug in new guys are the special ones.

you cant run out of our spread option offense.. except for against teams like Clemson..

Some say Texas "would never hire the Baylor coach"...well, and I have no allegiance or care about Texas one way or another, but if they don't hire that guy they're absolute maroons...

they did it with nick florence too

they were 4th in passing yards last year and 14th in rushing

total offense

2007 85th
2008 46th
2009 85th
2010 13th
2011 2nd (behind houston)
2012 2nd (behind la tech)
2013 1st

furiously googling art briles coaching tree. i don't care if we have to find some jv coach in texas, go get him

I think its more the have skill players than it is scheme. you watch them play they all can run just like oregon. huge talent pool to work with and players who feel they are getting over looked.

it's both. and skill players like that offense, everyone gets the ball.

this is baylor we're talking about

Exactly. They found fast WRs, but no one else can. Poor Longhorns and Sooners and their slow guys they choose before Baylor gets to 'draft' from the state of Texas.

Definitely going to have to go down the Briles chain, because he's safely positioned for the Texas job next year. USC as plan B. UConn as plan infinity.

Phil Montgomery was at the top of my list in January.

All the better as a football fan. It's a product people want to see, kids want to play for. I'm sure the majority of the people on this board that watch numerous games per weekend will try to tune in for them.

Oregon lit up Tennessee while Georgia battled vs the Vols. I wouldn't kick either offense off the field for eating crackers though, both are really fun to watch and look like machines out there.

I'm sure that more people watch college football here than the ones that are on the "Committee"

Holgorsen was a genius 4 years ago too... Big difference between being a good coordinator and a good HC, its not just plugging in. as we are seeing a bit.

Again, I don't want anyone putting words in MY MOUTH HERE, I really like Shafer, really do. Hope the guy is here twenty years but just like most new head coaches I am expecting some staff tweaks will need to be made much like Marrone did after years 1, 2, and 3.

I for one am tired of playing the magical, what about this guy game, all we need is this guy!!! and all are prayers will be answered, it's been 12 years of that crap and I am done with it.

Like I said, Bullogh is losing me quickly and that will be Shafer's mess to deal with but Coach deserves at least 3-4 years as a HC before people start playing the name game!!!

I would imagine we may see Shafer take a bit more control back of the D, a new DB coach and the next OC will be more experienced at some point. I just don't see GMC hanging around for more than a year or two. Again, it's much easier to hire 1 or 2 guys at the end of year 1 than an entire staff.

shafer with a briles clone as OC could be ideal. kevin sumlin formula. normal tough guy coach who leaves the offense to the wackos. stoops with leach. gundy with holgorsen.

the guys crazy enough to buck convention and run this stuff have all kinds of other problems running a program due to their craziness.

but the crazy stuff is becoming more conventional so my hope is that we don't need some mad scientist lunatic to stop smacking our heads against the wall running a weird offense.

marrone was pretty good in this regard eventually. modern offense but with a pinch of meathead credibility.

mcdonald moves around so much, we'll probably have to replace him for one reason or another. hopefully he recruits well and we can get someone else in eventually to run a better offense.

briles was magic for baylor. we hire a bunch of offensive coordinators who've never done it before. we got it right for one year.

Wait, is this rumor taking a life of its own? McDonald has called plays before as an OC. I swear I'm watching the pundits on ESPN on here sometimes with misinformation.

Got it right for 7 games once Pugh came back, with a lot of seniors on offense and also took Hackett 2 years to grow into the position. The same venom that was slung at Hackett will be slung at GMC. It's what we do. Is what it is.

I seem to remember our new HC putting some impressive defenses out there as well 3-4 years ago. We will be fine eventually on defense one way or the other. I agree with you on Shafer he wont stand for this crap on offense forever, he wants old fashioned MAC offense, spread it out.

I think we have to remember we have way less talent to work with. you put Watkins on our team. suddenly the db's play soft and the safety has to pay attention. we ran for 300+ with a lesser oline and less talent at almost every position. if you can fix the WR issue by just a bit things get a whole lot easier.

I think Shafer is a bit crazy for sure, I also think he's smarter than your typical football coach, it's good combination. When the dust settles I think he will put a good product out there, just going to take some time to tweak and I think we will struggle this year on both sides of the ball at times. After seeing the start, I think 6 wins would be great

If McDonald leaves I bet we see our QB coach promoted.

Love watching Baylor, and it's a good sign for a program like SU. No reason why Syracuse can't do stuff like that some day, it's not like Baylor is some recruiting monster. They just get the right guys for that system, plug them in, and take off.

Eh. I'd rather watch a grind it out game like Bama-LSU the last few years than Baylor score 70+ on WVU. Fluck the Big12.
