This logic is absurd. I liked virtually nothing about the football program for the better part of a decade. But I'll always root for them because SU is part of my identity as a (nearly) lifetime resident of central NY.

So what you are saying is that you are rooting for a team from your home area or home town out of a sense of connection to the area?

You could consider LeMoyne or Cornell. You might not be so conflicted.

I hope SU uses this for their next marketing push: "You can switch allegiances to a college team easily, please give us money."

This is thread is nuttier than squirrel droppings.

Well, if one of the goals of the marketing effort is to grow the number of fans, then they have to be coming from somewhere (unless they are new fans completely). So the marketing guys better hope that new allegiances can be formed?

Come on. Certainly no disrespect, but it appears some of your posts are arguing just to argue. I mean, Cornell is in Ithaca, an hour or so away from Syracuse, LeMoyne doesn't play at the big boy table (maybe an argument for baseball). Syracuse is the biggest game in town, and gets national recognition for its sports and is easily identifiable. Moreover, doesn't the vast majority of fans root for their team because of its indigenous nature to their home town...a sense of community and comradery. Just look at the buzz the entire area/region gets when the 'Cuse is making a deep run in the tourney/gets to the FF.

Don't bother. You can't have intelligent or logical conversation with posters like Townie.

Serously, this is insanity.

Seems to me you'd be happier by selecting a team with a style of play you like and a coach that you like and go with them.
Sounds logical, except there are some fans, like myself, who were bred and raised orange... you don't just select a different team because of X, Y, or Z. Even you know it doesn't work that way. You're just trying to stir the pot. I know it's hard for you to comprehend that SU basketball does not start and end with Jim Boeheim... but that's ok. Either you'll still be a fan and continue to root for the orange after JB retires... or, as you say, you'll just find another team. :noidea:

I'm not sure if JB thinks there are any good questions. Pretty much anythign that anyone will ask will be met with scorn and derision. He can be a real jerk.
He kisses the asses of the national media. That in my opinion makes him a real hypocrite. I wonder how he would like it if one of his kids were treated the way he treats the student reporters. I pray that one day some kid or a local reporter tells him where to go.

Point of order: Syracuse basketball was not "almost nothing" when Jim Boeheim became the coach. He certainly built it up with the help of the Dome, the Big East, ESPN, etc. But he didn't build it up from "almost nothing".

I agree with this completely. I have a book that was given to me by a good friend and it covers the entire history of the program. SU has a VERY rich tradition in mens basketball that pre-dates everyone on this board. Failure to acknowledge that is really selling the program short. I would encourage everyone to read up on the history of the program. It is truly fascinating. There were so many great players, coaches and teams going back to the early 20th century.

I read this a lot on this board and don't buy it. You must have missed his presser after the Final Four game against Michigan(Gregg Doyle CBS). And the post game in Hartford 2013(Andy Katz ESPN). Hell, he even gave James Brown an earful after the '87 title game. He doesn't care who you are or who you're working for. He'll let you know exactly how he feels.

when you can no longer logically counter the dissent just label them all traitors. mob mentality 101.
