BC HC Jeff Hafley was on WEEI

UNC recruited very poorly recently under Fedora. Ditto for Petrino. You make the fundrmetal error that most fans make. You focus on the school...oh, that school just recruits better.

It is the coach! The only party to blame for poor recruiting is the coach. This is Year 5 for Dino. Time to step it up as far as recruiting! Do you get the point now?

Good take. I love dino. Love the culture he has built, seems as though the kids love him. Love his moxy and interviews. Would want my kid in this program. From a fan's perspective and winning; he hasn't delivered and it starts with recruiting. I would love to see him here for the next 10 years but 3 things might define his career:

1. As fast as all the talk was the first 2 years, this offense has lost that moxy and even dino himself has over the past few years and that = execution = recruiting.

2. Dino and staff made a program changing mistake in moving around the entire oline last year when the center went down. Wanting the OL to be versatile and step in just doesn't work and not seeing this ruined the season. Having to move a 270# tackle to center and playing rookies at tackle? With a questionable at best OL coach?

3. WR , as a HS recruit , SU should be a destination . with Phillips and Ishmael playing into senior years and graduating, there was plenty of time to recruit the position that we all thought was dinos most recruitable. However, this has been a monumental failure and it's a head scratcher.

On #2, that is a problem that got Bob Davie fired at ND. I heard Lou

Got cut off above... but meant to say one year ND changed O Line every game. It aas crazy. Never had same starting unit. They were building "versatility" and trying to find best group for specific types of plays. It was overzealous coaching. Micromanagement. Did this all year. It was a shuttle system.

There was absolutely no continuity and they had a very poor ground game and poor season. As you know, Lou Holtz was always an ND PR man on ESPN. See no evil..hear no evil regarding ND But by year end he lost it on air. ND had just gone through a game without a rushing first down .Lou was pissed..."just stick the same 5 guys out there and let them play!. I don't care who they are!. But this crap of switching O Linemen every series wirh new combinations for passing and running plays has ruined this team. This is stupidest system I have ever seen!"

I remember that. That said, dino approving the OL coach to move around 3 or 4 guys for 1 injury playing on the premise that all the OLmen know and be ready to play all 5 positions did in the team last year. Servais was too light for any position at 270 as good as he is. But that shuffle was unnecessary and very telling.

FIRE BABERS!

There, I said it for you. Do you get the point now?

3. EVERY year under Dino someone says "WR is a concern" and every year it's not.

Really? Wr wasn't a concern last year? Harris was volatile and yes, we filled the gap with the MSU transfer, but where would dinos wr eval be wo Tristan Jackson and #7 as s transfer a few years back? Its been a mess and we haven't developed young talent into close to an Ishmael or Phillips and that's concerning. We play 4 wR spots and just how many of dinos recruits have made an impact at even 1 spot? Geeez, I wish I was even close to wrong bc i would rather win than have this chat.

Our issues last year were not related to the quality of the wide receivers.

No, not directly. That said they didn't make anyone better in terms of oline and qb play dynamics. Come on, we haven't had an impact recover emerge from dinos 4 years of recruiting minus senior grad transfer rentals.

So - Taj setting an all-time Syracuse Freshman receiving record (breaking Shelby Hill’s) doesn’t count?

Fair, but at the same time our best group of WRs was his first year. We had 4 productive ones that year. Jackson had to carry way too much of the load last year.

Yes, it does, my overlook. Just saying that the other 3 starting opportunities have not been developed. This offense needs at least 3 threats out of 4 spots to really hum. Also, an observation: benson was a wr all along, could have been an impact with his size and speed. However, at 210# was listed as a te? Dont get it. The kid moves in space and imo would have made a huge impact at wr either slot or on the outside. Instead the staff is moving to make him a te. That's a 40-50# wgt gain. Not sure how that turns out.

Benson is listed at 233 pounds. Hackett is 237. Don’t think he needs to be 260 pounds this year. He can play wherever as long as they throw him the ball.

Loved freshman Taj.

Didnt...love sophomore Taj.

Hopefully he has a big year. Talent is there.

I still don’t get all this hate on Taj last year. Tommy cost him a few TDs at minimum with bad throws and a few more by always throwing to Trishton and not being able to scan the field. I admit the online played a role in that, so not trying to bash Tommy. But I know, Taj threw his hands up and showed emotion, and dropped one first down against Clemson and half the fan base got the pitch forks out.

He was listed and played at about 217 and now the staff has him on the TE path and this year he is a twiner on his way to 250. Imo he had perfect size and speed last year but this image and want of him at te has taken over when we have a wr deficiency in impact players. Loved him at wr, adding wgt slows him down and puts him in a grey area at 6'3".

He has always had a tight end body and moves.

Not really, we are in need of a wr to step up and he had the speed and solid wr frame at 6'3" , 215-220. He could have played inside or outside.

Yeah, he does. He played TE in high school also and he wasn’t going to be able to keep his high school weight that you want him at. He’ll be fine with his speed.
