If you can grow natural grass, you should. The injuries from turf are not worth it.

But also, with the advancements of synthetic turf over the last few decades, they're creating better products every single year. So 5 year old turf should probably be replaced.

Precisely. Suspect this is more about installing a high quality grass field, which is preferrable for player safety and they're in a good climate for it.
