Best freshman class in a long time...

Excuse isn’t the right word when the guys actually sucked though.

I think we’ve got a solid 7-8 when the games get right. Which is perfect.

Yep, 8 is perfect and having a 9-10 that can play is amazing

excuse is the right word...some will use it again this year, I’ll be sure to bump this thread when they do.

I think Sidibe coming back affects Woody's minutes more than Buddy. Marek playing a lot of 5 opens up forward minutes bigly.

If Woody keeps shooting the deep ball at a very good clip while playing good d I think he will be ok. His length bothers wing shooters a lot plus he is super active and recovers quickly. I agree on Sidibe impacting his minutes more for sure.

There was an argument last year to be had for the talent to go that deep not being there. Production in early games validated it somewhat. After 3 games, you can't make the same arguments this year.

Yeah that Athletic report made JBA sound like Geoffrey from Everybody Loves Raymond when he was walking around in circles in the middle of the court, chasing other players with his hands in his shorts and asking for a snack in the middle of the game.

I thought JBA was Jar Jar Binks

I was wrong.

right, I said I’m glad to see that won’t be used this year and we all agree that our bench is good. In years past, obviously the board didnt agree.

We can't fix the fact that early production dictates everything when it comes to the bench... Or it does most of the time at least. I'm not an advocate of that philosophy given guys can develop over time if the talent is there. This year of course now minutes have come with measurable output. It is what it is. Just nice to see the writing on the wall looks more positive this year.

I’m afraid that Woody doesn’t get any minutes once Buddy is back and we head into ACC play. Maybe I’m just scarred from past years.

I think JB sees a defensive weapon when you put him at 6-8 at the top of the zone. And if he is going to keep hitting three's then, he's got to see the floor even after Buddy gets back. If we saw no more than 30 minutes of Buddy and 20-25 minutes of Joe per game, that would be almost perfect for me. It would help our defense tremendously, and they would have fresher legs to shoot. We know that between Kadary, Griffin and even Woody, we have athletic bodies who can score for the other minutes at guard.

Helps when you have the right assistants recruiting them. I know Richmond was an Autry guy. I'm telling you Autry is a great recruiter Griff is too. These two should do the heavy lifting on every recruit. Gmac can do the local guys who are pretty much guaranteed to come here like JG3.

Richmond was not an autry guy. Just shows you’re wrong like usual.

Especially if you include the RF Ajak. They all can ball. Kadary is going to be great. He gets a little sloppy on both ends of the court...he’ll learn that he needs to tighten up against ACC teams, but his upside is tremendous.

Woody is much better offensively than I thought, and he has really good energy.

Anselem has that look to him. He’s not a project from a skill stand point. He just needs to learn the game.

Deep deep team. Bras and Edwards are going to need to step up, cause the young guys at their position can play.
Your observation may be because of 2 things. It ws against Niagara & Rider. And unusual extended playing due unusual circumstances. Some might say previous freshman may have seemed better if they had gotten the same opportunities. Lets see what happens Tuesday and Saturday.

Woody seems to be the odd man out when JB shortens the bench in league play. I hope JB doesn't start trashing Woody like he did to Rak and Roberson to justify his preordained bench rotations

Does anyone else think Frank has a chance to be the best center on the team by March. Not a lock, but I really like what I saw movement and energy wise. i do think he would get into foul trouble at this point but I think he will providea big lift

Even in the past guys like Goodine would barely get in in the 1H vs cupcakes.
I don’t think that’s really a fair statement. Last year, SU played Virginia, Ok St, Penn St and Iowa in the first 8 games - and none of those teams are cupcakes. In those 4 games, Brycen got a total of 42 minutes and scored a total of 3 points to go along with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 turnovers. And he was 0-for-8 from 3-pt range in those 4 games.

There were 4 other games that were against cupcakes last year in the first 8 (Colgate, Seattle, Cornell & Bucknell), and in those games Brycen totaled 56 minutes and scored a total of 11 points to go along with 6 boards, 7 assists, 7 turnovers and 0 3-pt FGs.

Compare what Brycen did (or didn’t do) through 8 games last year to what Kadary and Woody have done through just 3 games this year. Kadary so far has 27 points, 17 boards(!), 12 assists, 6 turnovers, 4 blocks and 8 steals. And he made a 3-pt FG. Woody already has 18 points, 13 boards, 2 blocks, 2 steals and 4 made 3-pt FGs (that’s one more 3-pt FG than Brycen made all of last year!).

Brycen got opportunities last year, but when compared to Kadary and Woody, he didn’t come close to making the same impact that they’ve made so far this year. And I think JB sees that, and I think that he will continue to feed those guys minutes.

Woody might be in danger of being the odd man out once Buddy and Sid are both back - but if he continues to display a high motor, shoot and rebound well, I’ll bet that JB will find a way to keep him in the mix.

Our season depends on our ability to find someone not named Dolejaz who can play center credibly for 20-25 minutes per game.

PS - and as always that means defense and rebounding.

I’m excited about the future for the first time in a minute.

We’ll probably lose to Buttgers but that’s fine. There’s light at the end of this tunnel.

Need the Centers to round in to form to put it all together.
