Of the 3 bowl possibilities that Syracuse has, do they prefer the best bowl (Russell Athletic) or the bowl that offers the best matchup for them? Since the BCS is likely out of the question and bowl game royalities are split amongst BE teams, wouldn't they prefer the better matchup?
I'm not saying they should steer clear of a challenge, but if going into the offseason on a high note with a bowl win is that important, shouldn't potential bowl matchups be a consideration? Let's be frank, there isn't much difference between these 3 bowls in terms of overall prestige. Plus they're all nationally televised.
I think avoiding a well coached team like Baylor for a team like NC State provides a better matchup, a better chance for a victory and a better kickstart into the offseason.
