Big 10 says a title this year is meritless

Still think a National Champion would be a little chintzy with only 3 out of 5 Power Conferences playing ...and I'm not a fan of any other conference except the ACC

Just play and have fun, and see how good your team can be this year. I know I would be thrilled with that, since the alternative for many posters on this very Syracuse forum are calling for no football at all

Why because of Ohio St?

They are the only program with a chance who won’t be playing.

2 SEC 1 B12 1 ACC is the usual model.

This is gonna carry through 2021. It’s far more dangerous to play a fall season after 10 spring games. I don’t think P12 or B1G schools will be scheduled honestly by the other 3 for their callous indifference to player safety.

and they have an excellent point because they have been represented in every title game EXCEPT 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20

I welcome and OSU or PSU players to transfer or walk on at CUSE
LOL I read that quickly and thought I don't remember the B1G playing in any of those title games.

Two facts.

Based on excess deaths Covid peaked in mid April and has been on a steady decline ever since.

Male deaths between 15-25 have averaged 5 per week from Covid vs 420 from other causes. And that’s with no reference to if there were underlying conditions.

Again if a kid is diabetic or has sickle cell or another condition he probably shouldn’t play, otherwise the risk is neglible based on what I’ve seen, especially with a testing and isolation protocal

It appears that the parents of players at Iowa, Ohio State and Penn State are not happy with the lack of transparency in the Big 10’s cancellation process.

I assume more to come.

Take away Clemson and the ACC is arguably not a power five conference. Would be very similar to the old Big East...

So, FSU’s Natty a few years ago doesn’t count anymore?

Who was the other team in the old Big East that won it all?

Except that Florida St. has recently won a title and played for another. Miami could and will rise again if they can ever get the right coaching staff in place. NC is recruiting at a high level and could do some damage nationally in the next few years. Oh and Clemson is in the ACC and not going anywhere anytime soon.

Take away Ohio st and the big 10 hasn’t done jack. You have to go back to 97 the last time someone besides Ohio St accomplished anything in the big 10.

Thanks, Rutgers guy.

Take away Rutgers and the B1G is arguably a much better conference.

Seriously this. A fan of a university that has dragged the reputation of two conferences as far down is it can go is the expert on what makes a P5 conference? If that school was founded 15 miles south of its current location, they'd be independent and probably FCS.

Ya Know, the BIg 10 needs to stop talking right now. I have no problem with them not playing this year and being overly cautious. BUT, if you are gonna not play and sit this one out, then don't get on your high horse and be the moral compass of the 2020 College Football season telling those who are playing what is and isn't right and what is and isn't fair. Just go sit in the corner and be quiet.

With that said, I know many here disagree but I don't see a Playoff happening anyway. Once the "regular season" ends, I think the season ends. You will not see 4 teams travel to neutral sites to play in most likely empty buildings. I just can't see it happening. I know, I know there is a lot of money at stake but still. I think it will be a huge challenge just to start and get through the regular season, IF (BIG IF) the 3 conferences that are playing can, I think they will just call it a day and be happy with that. We will see. IF anything the playoff will be tweaked and maybe they just do #1 vs #2 a week or so after the conference title games, get the damn thing over with and call it a day. And they may play it on the higher seed's home field instead of trying to fly 2 teams into a city and the risk involved with that. But even that I think seems unlikely all around.

Sounds like the Big 10 was relying on people dying from the virus as a reason to not be questioned about their decision.

They haven’t been transparent at all about the research, reports, findings that led to their final decision.

In the process, they have angered and frustrated everyone. Drumbeat gets louder each day. We all love stories of terrible leadership, well, this is a big one.

The Big Ten can’t reverse course and this commissioner keep his job.
He will be done.
The Big Ten isn’t coming back this year.

If I read the Wildhack article right he said we're going to increase testing?

yes, Syracuse is going from what I think was twice a week in season to three times. Not sure what context the ncaa guy is talking about. Number of tests? Type of test? Length of time to get results?

Honestly the guy's quote is so massively broad-based it doesn't mean anything. The news item would be the follow up question like you asked for context. But that's Twitter.
