Big Man Transfer

Pretty funny that members of this board are out there scouring the internet looking for a center for SU! This says a lot about SU recruiting efforts. Maybe the SU AD should kick some bucks to syracusefan.com and we can get rid of these ads and resurrect the Off Topic forum! That forum would be a fire storm these days.

You think this board would know about a player and the coaches wouldn’t? They have massive data bases.

A lot of posters feel that way or they just like to think they do.

William and Mary just fired their coach...several players have already announced they are transfering...Nathan Knight hasn't announced his future plans yet, which could be a transfer or even entering into the draft. Unfortunately for us if JB was interested, I think he would be a traditional transfer and not a grad transfer, and I'm not sure JB would want to bring on a center who can't play next year and only has one year left. But the fact that he's originally from Syracuse makes a natural connection if he does decide to transfer. Put up monster numbers this year.

Odds of a grad transfer coming in and immediately playing effectively in the middle of the zone are basically zero. The list of talented bigs that struggled defensively their first year is a long one. And if you don't play fundamentally sound zone defense you don't play for JB. Of all the 5's that have come through since we switched to zone exclusively the only one who looked comfortable from Day 1 may have been Craig Forth. And for those of you who say we will never be successful without a top notch big remember we won a National Championship with a center named...

...Craig Forth.
if the zone is the reason we cannot have a 180+ pound center...maybe the zone be scrapped for a season then???

...40 minutes of full court press with 12 deep rotation would be fun to watch

An overseas trip, with the extra practices, the low-pressure opportunity to get three games under new players' belts, and the opportunity to acclimate to new teammates -- would go a long way toward accelerating the learning curve of all the new players.

If ever there was a year to seek to bring in a fifth year transfer big, for all of the reasons specified above this would be the year.

Of course with mitigating circumstances he could apply for a waiver. Just need to change our name from Syracuse University to University of Kentucky North or the Ohio State University East.

It would but chances of JB scrapping the zone are not as good as the chances of me receiving a scholarship offer.
Boeheims rationale is that spending 100% off his practice time on one defense makes us a stronger tournament team than splitting time between multiple defenses. It’s hard to argue with his post season track record.

But, his rationale has seemingly changed over the years. So, that track record includes results based on those different rationales.

It used to be said that we practiced mostly/all m2m when we were playing all zone in games. And wasn’t our zone more of a weapon in the past, more than it has been the past five years or so?
