Big Ten Attempt to Play Tourney in MSG Not Going Well

Might as well just do it in Vegas

It’s pretty funny that I’m sure that was created to be clever, and yet what it really does is underscore how stupid playing the B1G tourney in NYC is.

These conferences are so lost. Sure, disrupt the season and alienate fans in a misguided attempt to “own” the New York market. It’s ludicrous.

Agreed. Not only that, but it shows how stupid it is for RU to try to entice players to go there because they're "right next to NYC." They're 31 friggin miles away. It's an hour-long train ride to get to Manhattan from RU:

The B1G overplayed their hand. There are a fair number of alumni in the NYC metro area that went to those schools, but it pales in comparison to the Big East and lesser extent, ACC. If Rutgers was ever good at basketball, it would help, but NYC is not B1G country.

The lower bowl looks decent for Iowa Illinois but the upper is totally empty.

So, we made a mistake moving our tournament to NYC. Let's compound the stupidity by not playing our semi-final doubleheader at night.

That's the ticket.

Sooooo, PSU, UMD, and RU aside, every B1G school is a million miles west.

...and they're going out of their way to call that out?

Maybe they could temporarily adopt a Red Sox logo to be less popular in NYC. Actually, scratch that idea. At least the Red Sox are relevant.

Seriously. Today screamed mid-major. You're holding 2 of your marquee games at 2 and 4:30? Play at 7 and 9:30 with a well lubricated crowd and you'll have an atmosphere.

I am sure that was all a CBS decision.

Absolutely. But you paint yourself into that corner by limiting your options to CBS. One unintended consequence of "claiming NYC".
