Bills Game at the Dome on Monday?

Honestly, I am in favor of a new stadium. However, I would never do it as part of a plan to be a back-up location for the Bills or to get pre-season games. That's way down on my list. If we build it and it works for that purpose, that's great.
no I wouldn't build it for that reason alone and I wasn't implying such. I was just stating it would be just another of many events that COULD be held here in the region with a state of the art facility. . Just another attraction the region could hold that we currently cannot hold. Lost money!

It's time to get into this century!

exactly, if this gets green lighted, then you cant sell anything short. its got to be top notch and ready for anything.

not being able to accomodate the NFL and the bills this weekend is sad.

at least they didnt move it to penn st...

And that's why building a new stadium is necessary. If we had a state of the art facility up to date with all the modern amenities we would have had this game more than likely. But adding a "wing" on to the dome or expanding it, changing the bleachers, or just throwing on a new roof doesn't fix the problems long-term. Just a band-aid. It's time to go BIG! Build a state of the art facility for the whole county. Attract big concerts, shows, give Syracuse University a big venue that it deserves. And put our county in a position to be "on call" for situations like this. And lets be honest with the Bills, Jets, and Giants. Things like Hurricane Sandy, this snow storm...its not crazy to think events like this won't happen again. So put our region in a good position down the road to be capable to help out, host an event like this on short notice, and bring revenue to the region. Also have a building that can maybe get an NFL preseason game or two a year.

we're spending too much money on stadiums as it is, now we need to spend more on backups to the stadiums. we need to go big for backups to the backups to the backups

Right. When was the last time this issue came up for the dome? So let's spend money to be NFL-ready in case this happens again... though it never happened before this. The NFL could have used the Dome the way it is now and worked around the wiring imperfections.

it has nothing to do with being NFL ready or backup place, it has everything to do with not building what will be an outdated facility...quickly.

these ancient open air places can at least build something from the outside and sit it on top of the upperdeck, hell the Giants even did this at the old Giants Stadium.

with a roof, you are screwed in that regard. so thats why you would have to be as NFL ready as possible, for they likely are at the tiptop of how football will be viewed going forward IE: you dont want to be stuck in a beta world...

its also why a roof makes no sense for Syracuse, it will likely be outdated or in need of drastic repair in 20 years.

it's a good thing they made giants stadium so easily updated or else they would've had to build something new

it was probably same firm that did the Dome, timeframe fits.

While I would love the have the dome replaced, it is outdated for what? It is a college stadium and accommodates college games. Seriously about the roof... First, the dome has been a huge success for both basketball and football. Huge. Cannot be overstated. You want to really kill football at SU and I mean really kill it? Create a new open-air stadium. Attendance will drop by 10K per game. In addition, having that unique venue that can hold 35K for hoops is unprecedented and frankly helped make SU basketball a national power. I also have no idea what you would want to build above the upperdeck? More seating?

A safe guess would be "none".

The Vikings are playing at Gopher U this season.

This might have been planned for when the place was built a few years ago.

Minnesota! Since when they built it they had the Vikings in mind knowing at some day they might need to borrow it at times

Cuomo's not a democrat...union busters are not democrats...I despise him more then any other politician on the planet.
People who take away Constitutional rights for political points are Democrats. People who bust unions are good Americans.

The stadium is too small to ever host a planned NFL game. Ever.
Would you build 70K seats just in case.
Not good money mgt.
Syracuse will also never get a bowl game, so having a NFL broadcast ready stadium is needless.
Now a new stadium for other reasons I would be in favor of.

There's no way that's what you meant initially. It it was what you meant you would have just said, "not equipped for an NFL set up" or something like that. Using the word size has nothing to do with it.

Yea, he changed his take. Specifically said the Dome was too small a stadium.

Nah.

The question was about "college only" stadium.

When the Vikings' new stadium deal was done they agreed to add field heating, suites and other stuff.

I suspect that the new technology requirements were added after the Metrodome roof collapse.

I didn't change my take, you people took what I said and put a spin on it. Yes the stadium is too small, I said that and its true. It's too small because it can't house the necessary replay booths and all of the other state of the art technology required your run of the mill NFL game has. The Dome lacks the necessary space (ie too small)...not in the stands but upstairs in the booths! You two hear "too small" and think of seats and the size of the building as to where fans sit...which is what I wasn't talking about! Live in your bubble and believe what you want and make up fairy-tales in your head as to what I said, but you are both incorrect.

Ill not even reply to that stupidity

The Dome is fine for our needs. If Cuomo wanted to waste your tax dollars to build another Dome at the bottom of the hill I guess that would've been fine too, but not a major need.

Add Yankee Stadium and PSU's Beaver Stadium to the list of lame stadiums that are not capable of hosting an NFL contest due to inadequate technology.

Of course, even if the dome were equipped, I guess we now know why the Bills would not play a game there:

"King added that new Bills owner Terry Pegula, a Penn State alum and donor, was extremely interested in having the game down in Happy Valley"
