BJ Johnson is Orange

Kid looks ( from highlights) like he has a pure stroke, decent hops and is smooth. Wasn't MCW, although somewhat of an early commit, graded a lot lower and then exploded into the top 25? Not saying Johnson is going to be that kind of a player but loved seeing in the highlights that a lot of the shots were contested, even if late contests. I like how he compares himself to Durant, first player I thought of ( having # 35 helps) when I saw the highlights. That with the skinny frame and sweet stroke. He has a long ways to go to get to 6'11.. but as a 2g-sf , good looking prospect.

Also for the comments about the program recruits- I love it. Get some high upside guys, build upon a foundation, then mix in some bigtime blue chippers. Jordan with Lawrence/Roberson/Vonleh would be great. Then bring in Briscoe/Bryan in 15 , DJ, just a nice foundation of recruiting solid role players/specialists and blue chippers.

Great shot at Jordan.

I think he might be a "priority" recruit. Do you see him as a 2? Have you seen him play in person?

BTW, great job with your site, Dean.

definitely a priority.

While skimming that article, I have to admit that I had an unpleasant flashback to 1991 when I first saw the name "Rob Johnson" talking about BJ's recruitment, until I went back and read more carefully and saw that it was the player's father.

I feel like we are getting the girls nobody wants in this class...with the exception of Ennis...maybe I'm exaggerating but the guys we are getting aren't the ones I had in mind.

I don't remotely share that concern.

This coaching staff has done an incredible job over the years of early identifying prospects like MCW or Hak before they blow up. They also do a tremendous job of identifying high upside kids who are great system fits.

Obokoh and Johnson might not be McDonald's All Americans, but I am confident that both have better potential than what you seem to give them credit for. Johnson in particular is a VERY interesting prospect, given his comparative youth...

MCW and Hak are exactly the comparators that come to mind. Also note Johnson is only 16... lots of time to grow and improve before he gets to the Dome.

A lot of people have suggested that Johnson would benefit from a redshirt or prep year--at 6-6 165 pounds, either approach sounds like a great plan to maximize his potential as a long-term program asset. This kid is a lefty with a solid shooting touch. The raw materials are there.

Offer lists... (Only schools in bigger conferences) *This is according to Rivals.

Johnson - BC, Duquesne, UMass, Penn State, Richmond, Rutgers, St. Joe's

Obokoh - Dayton, Miami, Oregon, Temple, Texas, Villanova, West Virginia

Neither are amazing offer lists but they both have a lot to be proud of. It's not like we're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Syracuse this year only really needed a top PG. We got Ennis. Getting some guys who will stay for 4 years is good. Plus many think we'll land Rysheed Jordan and possibly another big time prospect.

Think about it this way. We just lost Kris Jo and Scoop, we are going to lose Triche and James Southerland this year, and maybe possibly CJ Fair. If that happens we will have 1 senior (Kieta) next year. They are most definitely stocking up with some 3-4 year players that can stabilize the program for the 1-2 year players. These recruits will give us that base that triche, scoop, kris jo and james were able to provide. Right now besides Kieta and Cooney, there are not many 4 year players on the squad.

Both recent commits present good upside on court and both are high academic kids who will help the APR(Nobody wants to be UConn in that department). Also neither player stops us from getting a stud forward for 2013, and Dakari Johnson in 2014.

Dakari Johnson and Chris McCullough would be huge for us in 2014.

Francis, what's your take on where we stand with Lawrenece vs. Vonleh vs. Roberson?

Perfect case of spoiled recruiting. This class will be around for awhile. It is nice to see as a fan.

Like our chances at the moment for Roberson. Vonleh/Lawrence will be the usual spring dogfights. Vonleh's recruitment is real low-key with lots of unknown, while Lawrence's recruitment has been giving me bad vibes lately.

yes it is.

Also the school that was made famous by Laptop gate, where a student sued the District for giving out computers with webcams and then allegedly turning them on to spy on students in their homes.

and for you Lax fans John Christmas

I can't be the only one who saw this...

Although I could be the only one immature enough to make a comment about it.

Am I the only one that is concerned that after the year we had last year and the allegations about LF that the staff would be so quick to express such a strong desire for a BJ.
