Boeheim retiring in 3 years, reportedly

Yup...Court to the middle of the Dome, Georgetown as opponent on a prime weekend time slot in March.

The NCAA might not even be around in 3 years when Coach retires.

His last game will be the most anticipated sporting event in the history of the city, I would think.
I can't think of anything that would compare. You may have to buy season tickets to guarantee yourself a ticket to the game as SU did a few years back with the Notre Dame home FB game.

Atleast now team won't be able to negative recruit against us saying JB won't be your coach. All recruits now know where JB stands and who they will play for.

Umm what? Teams will blast your recruits by pointing out that they WON'T play/finish under JB. This 3 year march for JB is likely to drain the talent out of Syracuse, which is bad for the ACC.

Doesn't mean he will coach all three years. Saying three years guarantees that if he should leave earlier (e.g. after next season), there won't be a perception he was forced out by the NCAA (or University).

Actually, isn't it the opposite? If he says three years and then leaves after one, it would give exactly the impression that he was forced out.

gotta imagine we've already negotiated reduced sanctions.
If not already, it certainly strengthens SU's position to have the sanctions reduced if we appeal. This would appear to be some savvy legal maneuvering orchestrated by Syverud (just like the preemptive post-season ban).

JB was going to retire eventually.

He'll be 73.

This gives him the chance to finish on a positive note and bring in some of the recruits SU is eyeing over the next three years.

It's also a good PR move in light of the appeal.

All makes sense.

Also we now what game the Dome has to be moved for the 50 yard line for. JB's last home game in 2018 the Dome has to be 50k strong and the game be in the middle of the Dome. If we could get Georgetown to be our opponent that would be ideal as they should be a home game that year. 2015/2017-DC, 2016/2018-Syracuse and with 15 teams in the ACC we could play an OOC the last game.

Or recruiting will take even a bigger hit than 3 lost scholarships. All that might be left to consider SU would be "project" type players. Like Coach K, kids come to SU to play for JB. Not saying they won't come for the "new guy" but there's a lot to be said for being coached by a HOFer

Or it could work out really good, and have top 10 players line up to be on the last JB team.

I don't think so. School is on record as being agreeable to JB saying he intends to coach three more years. Therefore if he leaves sooner - the perception/reality would be he is leaving on his own terms.

Nope, not the guys we are recruiting. It won't impact Thomas Bryant, who isn't going to be a 4 year player. It won't impact Battle or Moyer, who will know JB is going to be here for their first two seasons. It will factor into the 2017 recruits because they will only be coached by JB for their freshman year.

Mike Hopkins is our primary recruiter right now and we are the only team in America where recruits can play regular season basketball games infront of 30k+ crowds. Our recruiting will be fine. I think being honest with recruits is a lot more important than you.

If you think its going to drain talent I disagree we rarely target the top 10 recruits we go for multiple top 20-50 recruits and will continue to do so.

The Chancellor seems to be on top of everything!

Normally this may be true. However we already have 4 signed for JB's next year. We may only have 1 schollie to give in year 2 anyway. So it will affect 1 year of recruiting. Not to mention that Hop does most of the recruiting anyway
