It is clear that Bernie will soom have an opportunity to soon become friends with the other Bernie (Madoff).
I made a post a few days ago citing reasons to have faith in Bernie and that this would just play out and die. Boy, was I fool on that one...my worst post ever.
As for Jimmy, the key issue here is that the landscape has changed. For Jimmy to survive this sordid mess, it will not be enough that he didn't know anything was going on. It will be neccessary to determine, using hindsight, that a reasonable person in his situation do not know and should not have suspected the truth about Bernie (especially in light of the red flags relating to the 2003 accusation that were out there). I am concerned about the Davis hotel room comments and Jimmy's response that essentially creates credability issues.
Clearly, Jimmy will hang his hat on the 2003 investigation, which will take the onus off of him up until that point in time. However, if any evidence comes up post-2003 that indicates Jimmy should have known or suspected what was going on, then Jimmy will fall.
Cantor will protect the university, and rightfully so, Jimmy will only be allowed to stay if there is ZERO doubt that he knew nothing and should have known nothing about what Bernie was doing.
We also have to consider the possibility of Bernie cutting a deal & saying things that will shed negative light on what Jimmy might have known or should have suspected.
I believe that before this is all done, that this will end up being Jimmy's last season either through "retirement" or worse. Hopefully not the latter.
