The more SYR guys out there seen by recruits the better. I know some D1 assistants have served as coaches before in the TBT but I don’t know if they are from a P5 conference.

When Adam Weitsman called “out of the blue” to ask if he’d be interested in being the team’s head coach this summer, Griffin told him it would be an honor to do it. Griffin has an enduring friendship with Weitsman, who will reprise his role this summer as Boeheim’s Army’s Chairman.

Who's Griff to say no to AW? As has been noted, he does have a day job and that should take priority during this important recruiting period.

Do you think that GMac would have allowed Blackwell to take the job if he was offered? I'd say no.

Yeah I’ve been getting the vibe from the outside since the season ended and the offseason has began, but I won’t be shocked if Engelstad has taken over as Autry’s top assistant. Maybe Griffin is leaving and it hasn’t been announced yet. Or he really doesn’t have offseason duties. In season, he’ll be a practice coach, work on opponent scouting, and sit on the bench for game days. Either way, something happened, the Griffin that was basically the AHC last season wouldn’t and shouldn’t be allowed to coach Boeheim’s Army. Don’t think even as a lower level assistant he should be allowed either as long as he is on the SU coaching staff.

Totally agree. I started feeling good about how dedicated this staff was to be successful, and how imperative it is to kill it this year and beyond...and then this. It makes no sense at all.

Makes no sense at all. JB has peripheral involvement, so he must have thought it was a good idea too. In addition to the obvious problems, what kind of look is it for a major conference assistant to coach in TBT?

Can’t wrap my head around this at all.

If the team doesn't perform next season, Red and the entire staff will be gone.

None of the 2026-28 kids that Griff would be evaluating would end up playing for him anyways.

Have the rules changed? There used to be a limit as to how many coaches could be on the road at a time. It was 3 years ago. What is it now? 3? 4? Unlimited? If there is a limit maybe Kline is replacing Griff which I would be OK with.

It’s very funny how Cuse Sports Talk phrased the beginning of the tweet as, it’s official. Like everyone was expecting this to happen and they just reported it as official. I don’t think anyone expected this lol. Anyone who has been tuned out since the end of the season viewed him as Autry’s number 1 assistant based on media appearances.

Never been a fan of Griff. Just another reason.
I don’t think anyone on this staff is worth a damn expect for Straughn. Love that dude and need to keep him around. But no one else on this staff pulls any weight
