Bowl projections

From what I have read, the ACC has relaxed the rules controlling picking order for many of the bowls, to make for the most flexible and lucrative selections for the bowls.

Not sure if they expect the bowls to cooperate and be nice. Should be interesting if that is the expectation.

Would guess if we are bowl eligible, we might get fought over some. I would think the Pinstripe, the Fenway and the Military Bowl all would want us badly.

Largely because of the good turnout we have for the Orlando Bowl, and partly due to the dearth of attractive opponents who will draw at those venues (probably no BC and no VT. Pitt is probably going to a higher end bowl and UVa might as well).

We will have a choice of destinations. If we can find our way to 6 wins.

Yes, we’ve already had reps from bowls at home games this season.

I believe if we become bowl eligible we will get to choose our own destiny this year which is different from when we went to camping world bowl in 18.

Thank goodness we showed up in LARGE numbers for that game. It really has helped us.

Now let’s get those 6 wins and maybe 1 or 2 more!!!

Having 2 high profile offensive players will make SU a very attractive team for a Bowl committee.

Selfishly I want the Holiday Bowl since it’s now at Petco Park and we’d be able to walk to the game. Haha. We’d most likely have to go 4-0 down the stretch for that to happen though.

First things first though, let’s get eligible.

Does Cuse football “travel well”?

Will the SU alumni go to a bowl game to support this team? If yes, where is that alumni base located; NYC, Boston, So Cal?

This is concerning. We don’t even fill the Dome beyond 80% or it’s capacity. I don’t think our attendance for a home game has exceeded 40K this year.

exactly. all that empty tin in the stands don't help the cause. K state screwed us on this point years ago.
their fans "traveled better" .

VT has 4 of their last 5 on the road. Maybe that will be good for them. But I still think that QB can't lead them to winning all of them, usually have to pass on the road (@GT, @Miami, @UVA). They should win @BC and vs Duke. They need one of those other 3 on the road to get to 6.

Miami woke up against NC State. Van Dyke looked good, but if he goes down, they're done.

I think FSU has a chance. Be interesting to see what happens @ Clemson this weekend.
Their problem is that their pass "defense" is a sieve. Pickett shredded them Saturday and their fans believe that Holmberg (Duke) and Armstrong (UVa) will do so as well. They'll have to try to outscore everyone.

These days you get 6-6 your in. Used to be a competition for those 7-5 , 8-4 for spots. Syracuse put about 20 to 25 k fans at the Camping World Bowl. We will support the Fenway or Pinstripe which is probably where we would go at 6-6 .

It’s not concerning because we sold out of our tickets for the camping world bowl.

The reps realize the dome has been less than full due to the Covid restrictions that have been placed on the dome

We will have our pick of what bowl we want if we get to 6 wins.

But we have to get there first

As i said previously, the Fenway Bowl is going to want a northern friendly team to offset the AAC team. My guess is their wish list is Pitt, Syracuse and prob ND if they sputter out. Not sure if BC wants to play in a bowl in their own town.

We make a ton of sense with the local alumni. I would be shocked if we don't end up at Fenway or Pinstripe this time around. Our fanbase is also probably a bit more COVID concerned too and traveling by plane to somewhere remote isn't going to jazz up the entire fan base too. Huge assumption on my end but my guess is we'll do better locally this time around

I think Syracuse at Fenway is extremely likely especially at 6-6 or 7-5. The only way it is not Fenway is if BC gets 6 wins.

I spoke with the Cheezit Bowl Rep during Clemson. They were the old Camping World people and were impressed from our last trip. We told them we enjoyed Orlando, bars were fun.

Alumni travel to bowls a good bit but not exactly to home games. Locals do their job coming to bowls too from what I've heard.

pinstripe was a thing for a few years. much prefer attending a florida snowbird bowl

florida bowls offers early bird 1st quarter pricing on most items.

how much of that turnout was due to location? Can’t imagine we’d travel well to icy Fenway.

heck might as well have Mr Weitsman sponsor the Scrap Bowl and have the team play in the dome.

The Pinstripe pays well, not sure about Fenway or some others. I really prefer a warmer weather location myself.

If it's in Tampa, I'll be happy to host a scramble at my home course. I live on the course, so a plentiful supply of adult beverages is even easier than from the beer cart girl. Plus, I don't charge. ;-)
I don't golf, but I'll gladly carry a bag or drive a cart for someone in exchange for the peripheral fun!
