Brent's Survey on Why People Stopped Attending SU Games

Win and win a lot, and we will fill the Dome.

Syracuse is and has always been a front running town.

Win big and people show up.

How does average basketball attendance compare with football in the dome?

I selfishly prefer small crowds. It is a far more comfortable experience; no concourse congestion, the people next to us move down, people often choose to hop up or down a row to get to the aisle instead of tripping over us; no line for beer even during halftime, my wife does not take a year in the bathroom. I might change my mind when it happens, but if the program ever gets to the point where it is averaging 45,000 +, I might give up my season tickets.

They to stop taking requiring Donations on single game tickets between the 20's. I have watched people turn around and walked away from the windows when they know tickets were $35.00 advertised and the window person says they are $75.00 because of the requirement to DONATE. Hell do they even give a tax receipt for donation?

People who buy Seasons and donate do it for the convience of knowing they have the same seat for every game and don't have to deal with waiting in line to purchase everytime they go.

The university is not in the position to demand the donations period. This thought process is every bit as bad as the Giants was last night.

Then go to High School games

Now we have people telling others to stop going to games :rolling:

Nobody goes there anymore ... it's too crowded. Yogi Berra

I didn't do that. I just said I personally prefer small crowds. I want what is best for the program, which is of course, large crowds. I just might give up my season tickets when it happens.

Some people struggle with reading comprehension.

There will be many people who donate that will stop if they are paying $100's for a ticket and joe blow shows up and buys the empty seat next to him for $35. There would be no inventive to donate.

I am hoping the new AD eliminates the preferred seating donation for football next season. That way the season ticket holders will catch a break and single game seats will be much more reasonable between the 20's. Something has to be done and this would be a great first step,

Weve had season tickets since the dome opened. We have a great group in our section. Youre gonna rub people the wrong way no matter what you do. If you open up the tickets, its going to seem like the loyalty of those season ticket holders means nothing. On the other hand, youve got to sell tickets, especially in the bottom bowl.

One solution would be to pack together the season holders. move in 15 yards (From 35-35)

No they don't have to get rid of the donations on the season tickets as that is a choice they choose to make. But on the single game tickets a lot of people don't know about them and some have drove a decent distance and then feel like they have to buy them as they made it a days event but choose to never comeback and go thru that again. I'm in sec 128 which doesn't have the required donation, but there is single seats around me and sometimes I here people complaining when they first go to the window the tellers try to push them into the donation seats first. They don't like to hear that.

That will never happen. The preferred seats are for both football and basketball and it collects a lot of money. Level A is over $800 a ticket plus the cost of a season ticket for both football and basketball.

Reading the comments below his article leads to one conclusion: A lot of these people are idiots and good riddance to them: You have to walk up hill, tickets are too expensive ($29 tickets on Ticketmaster right now), people stand up so you can't see, the dome is in a bad location (Really? I mean really?) Just bozos...

The new AD is going to have to do something because charging $151 tickets (which does not include Ticketmaster surcharges) for any seat in the dome is ridiculous. That is what comes up when you select the best available seat for the Central Michigan game.

Theres plenty of nice seats in the bottom tier reasonably priced. The dome isnt that big and frankly there arent too many bad seats in the house. Youd be paying a lot more for a lot further away at other places. Dont worry about the $150 seats and just get yourself to the game in a $20 seat

I would look at changing demographics as the answer but the Utica Comets are killing it in attendance ... because they win. I cannot think of a team that blows chunks and fills the stadium. Can anyone else name one?

Well sure but it's only $5 to park for that minor league hockey game for an NHL a team that no one cares about. You can't expect people to pay $10 more for P5 college football! ;)

The Buffalo Bills for the last 15 years.
They're still 5-10,000 from capacity in any given year during that stretch (the Bills actually reduced the number of seats) but yeah, getting 65,000 fans in a weekend is nice.

I agree. I want Shafer to work out and be here for the long haul, but I've also thought about who we could bring in in the scenario where he gets let go.
The only issue is I was trying to think of someone who would be a culture fit in the Northeast. Best spread offense guru I could think of with northern roots is Bobby Wilder from ODU. Not exactly an "Air-raid" guy, but his record with offenses is amazing. He also has guys on his staff that do a great job recruiting NY and NJ. Just my two cents without really researching possible candidates.
Chip Kelly when the Eagles fire him... I kid... maybe... :)

I have had season tickets for 25 years and have missed one game over that time period due to a wedding. I realize that are reasonably priced tickets but my point is there should not be any SU football tickets priced at $151.
