Brent's Survey on Why People Stopped Attending SU Games

I wonder if people who complain about these things have ever been to other big stadiums. I was in the closest lot to MetLife for the ND game last year. It took about 25 minutes to get to my seat from there. I've parked at Skytop and been in my seat in 15 minutes. I've been to games in DC, Baltimore, VaTech, UMD, Rutgers, Cleveland, Boston. It's always about the same time to your seat and I don't know any big stadium where the upper deck isn't steep and the Dome's upper deck is smaller than most. Not to mention, StubHub has $12 end zone seats for CMU, so you can walk downstairs in the Dome for dirt cheap.

This is just weak sauce you're bringing here.

I've never made it from Skytop to the Dome in 15 minutes. Never. The times I parked up there, I was always late for the game.

I used to live in the NYC area and have also been to many pro stadiums and arenas. The Dome is pretty damn steep. Sorry if you don't agree. I'm probably a lot older than you.

Try the Fine Mess ... you'll have so much beer and food in your gut, you won't even notice the climb up to the Dome.

It's a fair point as to why a small subset of fans may not go, but it doesn't explain why so many cheap seats in the relatively flat lower tier are open. The only time I was late for a game parking at Skytop was when I couldn't drag my friends away from the tailgate party in time. Even then, we only missed the first five minutes, which still pi$$ed me off. I can't stand not being in my seat when the team comes out.

Obviously, the pricing is out of whack if so many seats are empty. I would like to see the preferred donations de-linked from season tix anyway. Tie the donations to extra benefits, like better parking, special reserve buses from Manley, increased access to VIP services, complimentary pre-game buffets, coach/celeb alumni meet and greets, concessions/merchandise vouchers, etc. Pump them up with extra benes. There can still be donation tiers, where the more you donate, the more you get.

There can still be a season ticket reservation charge that goes along with a discount on a per-game basis for the tickets.

It shouldn't be rocket science to get more people in the prime seats without ticking off the long-time season holders.
This is a great idea. I would send your suggestions directly to Mark Coyle at MCoyle.

I did the same, brought my 80-something dad to a game. He was in a wheelchair, and we sat in the wheel chair area for a game. The Dome staff couldn't have been more helpful. My dad had a great time.
ditto--brought my terminally ill brother and had the same excellent experience. however --he did hide two cans of beer in his o2 holder, and loved every minute of it:)he has since passed away, but talked about that day for a long time --i miss him

how about another survey on why all these "true" fans are walking out in the 3rd quarter ? 4th quarter dome attendance is a joke.
it looks absolutely pathetic to anyone observing to see so many fans heading for the exits before the game is over.

It takes forever to get from the parking lot to the Dome. And seriously, the Dome is steep. I have friends with season tickets in literally the top row of the upper deck at the halfcourt line for basektball. The sight lines are tremendous, but going up and down the stairs is dangerous. They ought to provide oxygen tanks and a few couches about 2/3 of the way up. You think twice about trying to get a couple beers at half time because of it.
I'm in my lower twenties and I think the 3rd level is steep myself, it definitely isn't an age issue.

I agree. I want Shafer to work out and be here for the long haul, but I've also thought about who we could bring in in the scenario where he gets let go.
The only issue is I was trying to think of someone who would be a culture fit in the Northeast. Best spread offense guru I could think of with northern roots is Bobby Wilder from ODU. Not exactly an "Air-raid" guy, but his record with offenses is amazing. He also has guys on his staff that do a great job recruiting NY and NJ. Just my two cents without really researching possible candidates.
Yeah, I don't want to come across as a jerk to those who are less fortunate than I am, but life requires walking. A trip to the Dome doesn't require significantly more walking than anything else in life. For the majority of society, this shouldn't be a problem.

(If you've got a disability or you're 85 and don't walk distances or climb stairs, I'm sorry. But it doesn't much matter what SU does - attending a football game is going to be more difficult than it is for everyone else.)

Totally agree. My Grandfather and I have had 4 season tickets (in case other family members want to attend) together for years. My Grandfather also turns 94 next month. For his age he is is great shape, God bless him, but he's 94 years old with a limp thanks to a gunshot wound to his ankle from WW2, torn meniscus, and extreme arthritis in his knee. Granted we have a handicap sticker so we park within 200 yards of the Dome, but the point is if you really want to go, you will find a way to get there.

Ding, ding, ding. Your football families should be your target audience and SU's start times conflict with their games.
Not much different than the rest of the country, but they still fill the stadiums. What's so different for the Syracuse area? Apathy.

Couldn't agree more. Hats off to your grandpa, and tell him we appreciate his service.

Nobody leaves if it's still a contest.

God bless your grandfather, but sure, if there was general parking that close to the Dome, it wouldn't be an issue.

Wait a minute. Did I miss a week???? What is today's date?

Lol. Was typing faster than my brain was thinking. At least I have my mind on the next game.

Our upper deck is steep, or so I thought, until we went to MD 2 years ago. That upper deck was way worse, and it is newer (added in '95.) The Dome is tame by comparison.
