Notre Dame is not joining a conference unless the CFP requires conference affiliation, which it does not nor will it. If anything, the CFP will expand which will make it easier for ND to make the playoffs (even if it is not allowed a first round bye). ND would make more money if it were in a conference so remaining independent is not a money thing.
Contractually if they were to join a conference in football it has to be the ACC until like 2035 or something.
Or if the powers that be get tired of their poop and freeze them out.

Nd played one ranked team all year and lost to them at home. They don't belong near the playoffs.
It has to be the money. Even last week he said he would only leave ND if the money made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Clemson lost to Pitt one year and Syracuse another year and made the playoffs. Kelly is leaving ND because their independence costs him chances to get in the playoffs and win titles. And, any other coach who would be at that level will feel the same way. The hubris has put them in a box.
I think ND knows that not being in a conference will hurt their chances of making the playoffs in years that ND does not go undefeated. It is when ND is kept out of the playoffs in years where it does go undefeated that will cause ND to question it's independence. To date, an undefeated ND team has always made the playoffs, even with only 4 teams.
Honestly I think it’s actually consistent for someone to both hate ND and want them to join our conference; our fanbase is in desperate need of a legit rivalry.

Part of the reason for why ND's schedule is viewed as being weak is the five games they played against ACC competition this season. But yeah an undefeated ND this year coming out of the ACC that would work. I have been responding to the notion a one loss ND would get in out of the ACC.

I know you’re down on Dino still being around. And what I am about to say is NOT apples to apples, but much of what you’re saying about SU/Wildhack is what was said last year at USC. Keeping Helton would stunt their legendary program. A year later, that is definitively not the case. I don’t think this is a good year for someone like Wildhack to be trying to fill a HC gig at SU.
Clemson got to the playoffs with 1 loss twice, and the conference wasn't any stronger in those years.
If Ifs and buts were candy and nuts every day would be Christmas. Let's face it fellas the ACC sucked this year. A one loss Oklahoma State would have a far more impressive resume than either of those two teams even if undefeated.
Meh, not really a fair comparison. OU, though a great program, is regressing and just lost in Bedlam. ND is rising.
OU is going to the SEC. USC can easily rise to the top of the PAC and win titles. He's not stupid.
