LSU is a top 10 job.

Cash wise for sure - brand wise, we agree to disagree. The casual fan in Peoria doesn't see LSU on a national scope.

It astonishes me how these schools all seem to take bad fits. IMO LSU needs a players coach. Too many kids that are already looking at the NFL when they first step foot on campus. How does LSU expect a Northeastern ass hat to fit there?

I agree - good for Kelly and in my opinion a good hire for LSU. Program wise he is the best guy they have had since Saban.

The fact that ND got poached by a regional school is the big picture issue to me. The most prestigious and beloved/hated program in college football is losing their winningest coach to what is basically a regional school. LSU is not Alabama, Ohio ST, Michigan, USC - they are a regional school. This has to lead to some bi picture discussions by the ND powers that be on the future and where this sport is headed.

I also disagree that LSU is a regional school.


If you say LSU anywhere in the country they know exactly what you’re thinking and the first thing they think of is…..Football when you mention LSU.

They are absolutely a destination school for coaches.

there's no way to do this amicably if the goal for any coach is to maximize earning power.

Can't wait to hear the buyout in 3 years. The SEC West is insane and they play Florida every year. On top of that they have an OOC P5. Going 10-2 against that schedule is a good year. That won't be enough to satisfy LSU fans especially given Kelly's demeanor.

Exactly….for the 100 millionth time!
Alignment scenarios almost always fail to mention this tiny detail when it comes to nd joining a conference.
Should it happen, and it won’t, ND is contractually obligated to join the ACC. Can contracts be broken, of course. But over 75 years of animus w/ the B1G makes it more likely than not, they’d join with the ACC.

by comparison making 4m to just win six games at Syracuse seems like a low risk gig to me vs 10 and having to win a national title.

According to ESPN he was only earning 2.67 million per year at ND and that was after a recent raise. I love my boss and the owners I work for but if another company offered me 3x more than I'm currently making they could expect a 10pm text saying we need to talk

I don't think he can recruit the south.

If he was stepping into a loaded LSU team that lost its coach to the NFL he'd be a great pick. But he has to rebuilt that program. Whos the QB next year Brad Johnson's kid who is horrible?

The days of going up against inferior coaches every week are likely over.

Saban, Pittman, Harsins, Kiffen, Fisher every year is a murderers row.

Nah. He thought his talent was a notch below a PSU/MSU and he wouldn't run through the ACC and Stanford/USC forever.

If they made the playoffs this year which they might I like Iowa and Houston to win this weekend its another curb stomping. Lose 2 games and the fans hate you.

This is leaving while his stock is at its highest.

That said from afar if its an 8 team playoff and you have no CCG that you can lose ND has the easiest path of anyone.

The ACC isn't that bad I'm shocked that the league was unable to take any games off Brian Kelly recently. Off the top of my head I can only think of Clemson and NC State in a hurricane beating him.
