Brian Ward Fired

Zero chance? That seems exceedingly low. And even if it were Wildhack's decision it is unlikely that information would filter down to the public so that you wouldn't know....unless you knew

There is zero chance that Wildhack made this decision.

Good luck to Ward. A definitive program statement was needed. Babers delivered it. The regression was far too rapid with the number of returning players. Hopefully, a premium is put on a very strong recruiter as DC.
Orgeron.

Don't worry, Lynch is next.
What if I told you every offensive player is willing to die on a hill for Lynch? (that's been my understanding, all along) Would that change your opinion?

I'm lucky to know a bunch on kids on the team. Lynch developed Conway, Roberts, Adams, Heckel, Servais. Our 10 win guys. He's not coaching those guys, right now. He's also sharing OC duties with HCDB. They are Baber's calls, too. Y'all have no idea how much they'll fight for him. He's not coaching those guys, right now. Lynch is a solution, not a problem. He has a way with bringing out the best in people. I wanna see that, again.

It really looked like it yesterday when td was yelling at lynch on the sidelines. The players you names are the oc and weakest part of the offense. Guy needs to be help accountable for an awful offense this season

But does that mean he’s the DC next year, that’s what I’m getting at.
If he turns some stuff around maybe. Get a lb coach in who can recruit well. Never k now but ward had to go.

Someone posted a graph about how size relates to success in college, and last year we were criminally undersized at LB and WR/TE

I'd imagine this year is worse

So if we are smaller than our counterparts, we aren't stopping them this part of the season when we are fatigued and sore.

Add in the fact that our lb weren’t doing there job and our inside dline is small makes it worse.

Maybe they look to keep stanard as the DE coach as well. Maybe look to bring a New LB coach in who is also a good recruiter interesting that maybe the best Recruiter on the FL State staff and one of the best in the ACC is the linebackers coach and may be looking for a job who knows

"Woodie boasts an impressive resume on the recruiting trail and impacted Florida State immediately as he was ranked as the No. 2 recruiter in the ACC by 247Sports in 2018, despite having less than two months to recruit for the Seminoles after he was hired. Woodie earned AAC top recruiter recognition by Rivals in 2014 and was named the Sun Belt’s Recruiter of the Year by Scout/FoxSports.com in 2012. He was also ranked as the No. 1 recruiter in the Pac-12 and No. 13 nationally by 247Sports during the 2017 season. He helped Coach Taggart sign the AAC’s top classes in 2014 and 2015, directly recruiting nine of USF’s 10 all-conference selections in 2016, and the highest-ranked classes in the Sun Belt in 2010 and 2011. ?
We could use him helllo

I’m not even against him staying at oc as long as he opens stuff up again. Jesus look at our first drive. That was beautiful we ran stack 6 times and it worked. Went to a roll out and that worked. Threw to the te and that worked. Why did we not run stack again all game. I thing if we move him back to oline and get another co oc we will be good for fresh ideas. Since u have more info thamost of us do ask them why we only run in the middle. Yes we ran sweep 3x sat but why can’t we go off tackle or anything but straight up the gut.

We have to recruit size for the DL. Being able to lift 600 pounds is great but when you weigh 270 pounds and you are going up against 320 pounds you lose. PERIOD. In order to play the interior DL positions 290 is a minimum weight. 300 plus that can hold position and keep the OL off the backers is what we lack.

I would be a lot more hopeful about this firing if I was convinced it was Babers' decision and not Wildhack's. I am not entirely confident in Dino's ability to hire and oversee a staff and to make difficult staff decisions when necessary. Coaches are often fatally insecure, valuing familiarity and allegiance over challenge and performance, and Dino might not have escaped this flaw.

What does it matter, he's gone

It's funny reading those who know it was all Dino's decision and those who know it was all Wildhack's decision.

They talk all the time. I'm sure they discussed. I'm sure they were both on the same page.

Instead of trying to sound right about something you have no clue if you're right about, appreciate the level of communication that these two have.

really.. we ran it a ton.

It’s almost the SU football version of Team Edward vs Team Jacob.

Check the size report I attached
Outside bama and Georgia, 80% of college dl are about 278-283 pounds (many lighter).

We were 275.5 last year. I don't think DL size is problem. It's LB size

I saw things yesterday schematically that were porous. It was definitely concerning, especially considering that we were beat by the same concepts repeatedly. I just did not think it would happen this fast.

I wouldn’t expect any immediate gains, but it’s a positive for the long-term.

Dino trying to right the ship. For everyone calling for blood, you got your wish.
I like hearing percpective from people like you that understand things from the coaching side. I would love for you to expand on what you saw.

Fwiw Kim McCloud was Babers DC at EIU and BGSU.

2012-13Eastern IllinoisDefensive Coordinator
2014Bowling GreenDefensive Coordinator
Didn't he fire him to bring in Ward for his second season at Bowling Green or am I remembering that wrong?

the lack of LBs who can fill holes properly really kills the D. they consistently went around blocks instead of taking them on and when you add in safeties over committing over and over.. Add in the tackler always went backwards and its a long day.

if we were going to play like that we would have been better just living with man coverage and run blitzing or at least showing more on the line so the oline had something to think about..

the dline didnt help since they couldnt get off block, but they really didnt get blown off the ball.

It was very clear from all he said in August that Dino expected the D to be the strength of the team this season. And after watching this offense suck wind all year it was apparent that any chance we had of eeking out 6 wins was going to require the D to be good.

I know you just want the D to be marginally good enough, and the O to dominate. There was no way that was going to be the case this year, however.
Maybe he thought the defense was going to be good based on the fact that they did well against our terrible offense?

Upon closer review it makes sense.

Too much money is being invested in this Program - see the recent $25 million gift and especially the Dome renovation .

The University is probably not going to be as patient as it has been traditionally.

And Dino undoubtedly feels the urgency.

Excellent point about the investment, and if Dino is feeling some heat, I think that's a good thing.

it's not that i just want that, i just accept all the tradeoffs. babers is never going to have a good defense

Syracuse's defense faced opponents running 75 plays per game on average. That would be the 27th fastest pace of any offensive in college football. Add in the fact most games have been blowouts and its not hard to figure that it would be closer to facing 80 plays per game (which would be 6th fastest offense).

With Dino's offensive style (tempo, score quick), it also has a tendency to tire out our own defense as well, especially when 3 and outs occur at a strong clip, which they did this year.

Ward's defense was a defense built to protect a lead. Make the opposing offense throw the ball and let the length in the secondary and the pass rushing defensive ends go to work.

That defense got the chance to protect one lead against a power 5 opponent this year. And it laid an egg Saturday with that lead.

I am firmly in the camp that Babers is never going to have a team where the defense can carry it.

George has forgotten more about football coaching than anyone on Dinos staff will ever know. He is a football savant.

George was a truly great O line coach, but isn't he about 1,000 years old by now?
