I don't know who decided that this defense should carry us but I was never on board with that
 
Whoever they hire, he better be able to recruit. If you don’t have players It doesn’t matter who is coaching. Talent makes coaches look good.

Firing Ward now means we have the chance to pick up defense coordinators dismissed before the end of the season. Smart move. Someone was going to get axed at the end of the season anyway, might as well do it now - especially if there is someone on our radar as a replacement who is available.

I’d imagine the offensive side of the ball will see someone(s) ushered out as well. Why not now? If there are 2-3 people being let go. I imagine the offense would suffer badly (even worse?!) in that instance. And maybe their desired replacement(s) are currently employed & would wait for the off season to explore a move.

Just speculation, I’m probably the least informed person on this board.

My first thought was that Dino moved on Ward now to be able to get a start on hiring as well as he had a good interim choice. Can't do both OC and DC midseason.

I can't imagine Dino will hire anyone on the OC side (either new OC or co) who has no experience with his offense. Whether that is Kendall or someone else, who knows?
 
I got to think the nail in the coffin for Ward and what really made Dino pull the trigger were the comments Addazio made in his presser after the game about running the same play like 30 times
Im sure overall Dino had to be thinking of this for a while and it wasnt just out of the blue .
Its just not a good look for the program to lose convincly to the most important team on your schedule for recruiting and northeast Prestige. Its downright embarassing for that teams head coach to come right out and say it was pretty simple we didnt really have to be imaginative we just lined up and rammed it down there throat. Its a stunning slap in the face to have fans watch the game and say the defense quit in the face of the onslaught that was basically the same play all day.

It was very clear from all he said in August that Dino expected the D to be the strength of the team this season. And after watching this offense suck wind all year it was apparent that any chance we had of eeking out 6 wins was going to require the D to be good.

I know you just want the D to be marginally good enough, and the O to dominate. There was no way that was going to be the case this year, however.

it's not that i just want that, i just accept all the tradeoffs. babers is never going to have a good defense

I don't see why we can't have a good defense. We definitely recruit for D, add a P5 DC with a track record and ability to adjust to personal. I don't see why we can't be good on D at least some of the time.

p5 non factories are hardly ever good at defense, especially with head coaches with an offensive background
