Brown Postgame Thoughts…

I can’t remember a game where Benny played 2-3 minutes, made a mistake, and got pulled. I didn’t think he gets the quick hook.
its happened almost every game that he gets pulled directly after a mistake...he has stayed on the floor a bit after some mistakes but JB is usually talking to him every time he subs and its usually about something that just happened.

the team needs him and the bench. without the bench they will continue to run out of gas against any decent defensive team a la vcu, villanova, etc...its very clear that a deeper rotation will be key to this team's chances the rest of the season.

the bench needs to play in the 2nd half and that includes benny.

I do remember one game where he messed up and JB sent a sub to the table, but Benny had a nice offensive move on the other end and JB called the sub back.

It doesn't matter how deep your bench is if the players on it are consistently unproductive. You have to pick your spots with them and get them off the court if they don't have it in a particular game and the outcome is in doubt.

It hasn’t happened almost every game.

And if you don't concur that JB has yanked guys for making a mistake right away in the past, then I have no more to say.

I think having watched JB coach since day 1 I know his tendencies. And yes he’s had a quick hook with some players in the past. So I guess you can have more to say.

well yeah...subbing patterns are important.

but minutes management is too

if the starters are gassed and cant play in the last 5 mins of the game...you cant win close games.

even if you have to play an unproductive bench, it might still allow the team to win in crunch time...i think the bench must play more ...especially at least some mins in second half to prevent collapses.

if not, why do you think there has been a consistent pattern of poor 2nd halves?

Ideally you want a bench that contributes and gives you minutes for the reason you cited, but if playing them digs you a hole you can't get out of, what's the point? And while this team has had some horrendous second half performances, they've had some good ones riding the starters, too; a sample size of 11 games is too small to conclude anything definitively, IMO.

Bennie looks aloof. Not good for someone who isn’t contributing much
"Aloof" a good description of what I see also-
Not a high-energy guy when getting opportunities. Doesn't play like he wants more minutes.
Maybe unfair, but "still figuring it out" shouldn't prevent more big plays based on athleticism/effort alone.
"Enigma" applies also by my perspective at this point.

Benny reminds me of an old school freshman. Lots of skills, needs to learn the game through reps I practice and then on the court.
