People keep saying we hav 3 top ten wins. That's based on what; their ranking at the time? I don't really think the committee is going to care about that.

By RPI (which we know the committee uses for grouping, if nothing else) Duke is 8, FSU is 13, and UVA is 18. So three top 20 wins. Which is still impressive, don't get me wrong, but I have a feeling if we miss out tomorrow there will be a barrage of "how can you leave out a team with 3 top 10 wins" and its not really the case.

SU has 3 top 10 wins, that's a fact. They beat #6 FSU, #9 UVA, and #10 Duke. Duke had won 7 in a row prior to losing to SU.

It's good policy for the Selection Committee to reward the conference champion over the regular season champion when both are vying for a one seed.

I think we are all kind of sick of it, its time to man up and become Syracuse again, hopefully next year.

No doubt, we're going to grab a good transfer guard like the kid from USF and Battle will be an All-American.

Probably. But they should, after the first few weeks of the season, anyway. It can be a good indicator of how the teams were playing at the time. Does the committee look at season trajectory and value trend vs. overall data?

Well, they should care if you beat 3 top 10 teams more than when you beat 3 top 100 teams, the former should carry more weight.

And, when games are played there are only 10 top 10 teams in a given poll.

John Gillon's old coach was a master at gaming the RPI, but that one year the NCAA said NO SOUP FOR YOU, because they really had a sparse resume when you looked more closely at it.

RPI-wise, beating a meh team on the road, is equivalent to beating a Top Ten team at home.

Still, I think it makes more sense to reward the conference champion - which conferences have unanimously designated the tournament champion - over the regular season champion if those 2 teams are comparable.

The main issue is the committee doesn't look at the polls anyway. 3 wins over teams in the RPI top 10 would carry a lot more weight.

There were fewer than I thought; 18 teams have been ranked in the AP top 10 at one point or another this year.

Plus timing plays a factor. We beat FSu when they were ranked 6th. But they had lost that week to Georgia Tech; if a poll came out between that game and our game, FSU probably isn't a top ten team anymore.

its interesting to see Palm rely only on RPI and have us so far out and Lunardi have us in. if RPI didnt exist as a tool we would be in quite easily. if the group of 10 is watching these games they would not have 3-4 A10 teams in over us.

too bad BPI isnt the tool of choice the way it likes us we could be a top 8 seed.

Palm hasn't been paying attention to the decisions of the committee over the last two or three years. The committee has screamed with their actions that they don't care about an individual team's RPI rating.

I'm surprised there's only 18, I thought they'd be more than that too.

And yes, FSU lost before losing to SU. I don't know if that would've knocked them out or not, probably but it would depend partly on what other teams did. At any rate, under the current system they were 6 when SU beat them.

The issue was a team that won 6 top 50 games and did not make the NCAA Tournament. In 2011, Colorado did. The 2015 Colorado State team did not have 6 top 50 wins.
