Bubble Watch - Conf Tourney Saturday (Still Alive)

We keep dodging bullets like Neo in the Matrix.
VCU just locked up a bid. One less for Syracuse. At least we don't have to worry about Richmond but I never saw them having much of a chance against Rhode Island.

Hopefully Syracuse is still ahead of USC, Illinois State, TCU and Indiana or else *gulp*

Rhode Island is going to win tomorrow. They're the better team.

My point is I think VCU is squarely on the bubble based on their resume and what the committee has done with their selections over the last two or three seasons. Everyone else thinks they're a lock.

they will get to prove it tommorrow and may have to to get in

i have both resumes in view and vcu's is better and hard to leave out a team with 12 or 13 top 100 rpi wins. i think k state is more vulnerable than a lot of people as there non conf sos and lack of top 100 rpi wins are shaky enough to be right on the bubble line
KStates best 3 or 4 wins were away from home

The committee didn't care much about Top 100 last season. In light of that, what makes VCU's resume better?

I'm surprised there's only 18, I thought they'd be more than that too.

And yes, FSU lost before losing to SU. I don't know if that would've knocked them out or not, probably but it would depend partly on what other teams did. At any rate, under the current system they were 6 when SU beat them.

You say current system, but the committee doesn't look at the polls. So it doesntr really matter anyway

Or Richmond beats Rhode Island, and we risk 4 A-10 teams in the tourney. I think VCU winning today was the much better compromise.

They played 7 conference games against NCAA tournament teams out of 18 games.
We played 11 conference games out of 18 against NCAA tournament teams.

We played the harder schedule. Beating Missouri/Auburn/Ole Miss/LSU on the road congrats you have more dregs in conference to beat on the road. We play Pitt, Clemson, NC State all way tougher "easy" games over the crap at the bottom of the SEC.

Good point, but their 15 losses and more easily explained than our 14. They played 5 tourney teams in the OOC. we played 2. Yes, our conference was much better, but 2 road wins are pathetic. Its all crazy, lunardi right now is throwing water on all the duke #1 seed talk if they win the ACC tourney. He is right, they finished 5th in the SEC over 4 months, and just bc they are hot for 4 days, are we gonna give them a 1 seed? Its all nuts.

Been busy today, taking a quick peek at scores. Rhode Island winning is bad, Alabama vandy losing and vcu winning is good right?

Time for a guinness!

Duke has 13 top 25 wins. North Carolina has 12 top 25 wins.
Duke has 8 losses.
North Carolina has 7 losses.
Duke beat UNC 2 of 3 times.

If Duke wins tonight they should be in conservation if UNC is considered a 1 seed.

Duke played @UNC, @FSU, @ND, @UL, @UVA, @VPI, @SU, @UM, @Wake
They played the top 8 teams besides themselves on the road. They deserve consideration.

Other 1 seeds didn't play as hard a road schedule. Regular season schedules aren't balanced in any leagues except the Big XII and Big East. The rest are unbalanced.

So if we were in the AAC (heaven forbid)... would the conference tourney be in the Dome every year since it's bigger than UConn's Hartford XL Center? What a joke. Come on Cincy.

This thread probably reflects a lot of the talk that actually goes on among selection committee members.

The big thing that hurts us are those early awful losses because apparently the committee doesn't officially distinguish between early and late season play.
There's not much -if any- reward for jelling into a tourney-worthy team.

Right. We need Cincy to beat U Conn and MTSU to win today/tonight. I am guessing it won't matter who wins the A10 tomorrow they are both likely in. I think we need to hope the committee likes us better than Wake or KSU or USC. Just better than one of them

I think our road/neutral record will be the killer if we get left out. The early losses definitely hurt because even beating just BC would have gotten us in at 11-7. The OOC ugliness would have been moot. But no excuse for the pathetic OOC performance.

They won't look at this - but all of our bad losses came within 4 weeks in December/January 1st. We were awful back then.

Thanx. I think we definitely root for vcu tomorrow, they're more of a lock than Rhode Island, I'm not convinced they're in without winning the tourney.

Jalen Adams gets his 3rd foul with 8min left in the 1st half

yep that is huge. Cincy needs to put a little distance between themselves with him out. They have yukon in foul toruble and should keep driving inside and getting to the line. ollie will get tech soon to really start the implosion
