Buddy Boeheim: Signing 2-way with Pistons

One thing about Buddy is that at every level it's taken him some time to adapt to the level of play and then the light goes on ( Both at Brewster and then SU).Love he is getting that opportunity and I won't count him out now either.
Looks like he's already adapting to the level of play in G League

Buddy played Wed night.
Scored 18 points
3 for 6 from 2, 3 for 6 from 3, 3 for 3 free throws
Had 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal in 23 minutes (0 turnovers)
Was a starter again
In his first 5 games he’s averaging 50% from 2 and 43% from 3 with 3.6 rebounds a game and only has 3 turnovers total.
———————————————-
Played Elijah Hughes team again
Elijah scored 22 points
6 for 11 from 2, 3 for 5 from 3, 1 for 2 free throws
Had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block in 28 minutes (0 turnovers)

By the way Jimmy Boeheim plays for Karditsas in the Greek League
He’s averaging 8 points and 6.5 rebounds a game for them

Thanks for the report, Cherie!

averaged about 2 rebounds per 35 minutes on the hill. nice to see him pick up his game.

Many fans complained about Buddy all the time last year. Bad shots, too many minutes, didn’t play defense, etc. They’re going to wish he was still here. He along side Mintz would be great. Jesse is going to miss him the most.

Yes, we'll miss Buddy. But people were complaining more that he was forced into a role that he shouldn't have been in. We missed and still miss a true #1 player like Owens, Melo, Wallace, etc. Buddy would've been a deadly complement to someone like that.

Buddy wasn't the problem. It was how his dad over-used him.

I get what you’re saying but who on the bench last year was going to give us more wins for our record from the guard spot by playing more and Buddy sitting? This question isn’t just directed to you but to those who expressed a wish that he had less time on the court - just interested in opinions for who people thought was on the bench that would have resulted in us having a better record? Thanks.

Starters play starters minutes for a reason. But somewhere, there might be a chart that shows that guys are more efficient playing 29 minutes a game vs 38 mpg. Compare it to hockey where guys know they can go all out for one minute at a time and then rest up for their next shift.

Coach Boeheim played 3 guards last year. College basketball teams don’t typically only have 3 guards on their roster.
So the answer would be Coach should have recruited more players to have on the bench that could contribute.
Joe got hurt last year and we had a game where we only had 2 guards who could even play in that game. Kids get tired during games and fatigue builds up.

Buddy was a great player. But the poster’s point is fair. Buddy was put into a role that wasn’t fair to him. He had to take shots and play a lot of minutes because his dad didn’t do good job having more help for him on the team.
Buddy is showing in the G League that when he doesn’t have to be an iron man and not be the focus of the team he can do well.
Hopefully Buddy can develop into a Matt Ryan, Austin Reeves or Sam Hauser in the league.

Always thought Buddy/Joe could have been more effective with less minutes.
Never agreed with JB's perspective that 38" MPG has no impact on players.
Those playing big MPG at any level use an "effort governor" -subconscious or not.
Buddy, and particularly Joe, were often over-matched vs taller/more athletic players, and lower MPG could have allowed them a stronger defensive effort to neutralize deficiencies, and less "taking time off".

and i think it's very obvious that playing torrence more for its own sake and would've helped girard and buddy play more efficiently per minute

guys are going to rest one way or another

It was more that Buddy shouldn't have played 37 or 38 minutes in almost every game. He wore down, didn't give maximum effort on defense, short armed some shots. If you only play him 33 or 34 minutes, he gets a couple more breathers, and is fresher, makes more shots, gives up fewer open threes from being too tired to contest.

One of those young guys who transferred away wouldn't have killed us to play 3 or 4 more minutes a game. Symir could have played those minutes and moved Joe to the 2, just like we're seeing this year.

It's not about somebody playing better than Buddy; he was our best player. It's about a fresher Buddy playing better compared to a tired Buddy.

Interesting way to look at it.

Can't say it's wrong.

That's why he originally started playing zone. Because "A tired Derrick Coleman is still better than anybody else."

Back when we were smurfs, we used to press a lot, play some man and mix in the zone.

Once we started getting great players, the zone allowed them to rest on defense, there wasn't even a three point shot, let along the focus on them that we see today.

Are we talking about Cade getting injured and seeing if Buddy will get called up?

Oh, we’re re-hashing Buddy and doing magical thinking. Awesome.

Fantastic.

Anyone want to join me in chatting Detroit and Buddy, lmk.

Rooting for the kid to get called up.
