I'm a UVA fan. Now that UVA has lost i will be rooting for Syracuse. Buddy and his Hall of Fame dad are experiencing a memory that will last forever. What a great story. And, Buddy is not only a great basketball player but just a great kid. Not hard to root for at all. GO ORANGE !!!

I was a huge fan of Malcom Brogden.

There is a reason other fans are coming here in record numbers complimenting our team. This might be the most likable, fun to watch, team we've ever had.

If we make a deep run we will become media darlings in a way no Syracuse team has ever been before.

Now think about how much our own "fans" hated on this team (especially Buddy). Might be a good time for the this board to rethink the culture here so we're not our own worst enemy all the time.

Nobody here hated this team, we were just not fun to watch, and earlier in the season Jimmy was coaching very poorly thus opening up criticism. So what has changed ? Obviously, buddy stepping up to play at a star caliber level is huge. But equally huge is the contribution from bench guys now given a role. When guys like kadary, Jessie, and bras contribute it not only makes it fun right now, but it gives fans optimism about the future.

This team was always a good offensive, fun team to watch. Their problems were defense, which our coach is maybe the best all time at teaching. Maybe there was always room for optimism, and it was crazy to give up so early on one of the most successful tournament teams in recent years?

I'm not asking for much, mind you. Just for our own fan board to be a little more understanding to the problems our team has overcome than say, the UConn board would be. It was hard to tell the difference between the two most of the year.

You are welcome here anytime. BTW, how is the tenor of your fan base regarding Bennett? He’s still a star...right?

Being critical of how the team plays or of game strategy is not hating the team or hating players. I know plenty of really really good people that I would not want to see play for SU because they can't play basketball. It doesn't mean I don't like the people.

The team improved just enough just in time to make the tournament and is peaking at the right time to give us a chance to make a run. We're all happy about that.

What's interesting is that people are happier now that some things are being done during games that fans called for all season long. Maybe guys got healthy. Maybe guys improved. Maybe guys earned JB's trust. We'll never know the whys, but we can enjoy it now.

Part of d improvement is using the bench guys to add length, and well, you can’t even mention kadary and joe in the same breathe defensively. Also, I am optimistic, but to call a team that went 1 and 1 in the conference tourney and so far has all of one ncaa tourney win one of the most successful tournament teams in recent years is very premature. I think we need to get at least to the elite eight before that statement can be made.

Actually, there were times we weren't good offensively and were bad on defense. There were times we had trouble getting the ball up the court and getting into the offense. Teams can change over the course of a season and fan criticism can too.

There have been many posts wishing JB would retire! Does that count as “hating”?

Holy cow there's a lot of hyperbole here.

The nerve of Boeheim, fans and media pundits "called" for it and he ignored them. That is really a fireable offense in my book.

They should still be ecstatic. This Virginia team did not have the talent of the previous teams, yet they won the ACC regular season. They are a consistent winner who can compete for championships when the talent aligns. And he does it without cheating and with class.

I’m not jumping into this to further the debate. I was calling for Kadary and help at the 5 very early on. And once JB felt confident enough, he did just that. The results speak for themself.

But criticism, healthy and warranted, is not how I would describe a lot of the mid season posts.

It was not the posters with level heads and differing view points that made this board pretty much insufferable at times. The mob mentality took over with the Syracuse.com poster herd.

He’s 1st in class imo.

True Fin, but they've scattered now like a bunch of cacaroaches, as Scarface would say.

I totally agree. I also know how fans are. 2 1st round exits sandwiching a championship and the knee jerk fans will focus on the bread.

The criticism of Jimmy has been justified to this point. If we look at the body of work over the last five or seasons it has been mediocre at best. Only one really nice FF run has kept it from being a disaster, at least by Cuse standards. If we end up losing to WV and going out in the second round then nothing has really changed. whatever happens in this tourney, good or bad, is to small a sample size to make any conclusions. Jimmy will definitely be back next season. Let’s see if he is able to build on this run, improve recruiting, and compete near the top of the ACC. If he can do those things, then I will be more than happy to get on the Jimmy bandwagon and say he has turned the corner to get us back on track.

I disagree to an extent. The CUSE standard exists because of JB. That earns something in my book.

I get we’ve dipped over the past 5 years or whatever, but sanctions definitely played a part in that as well as departures.

Regardless, I respect differing viewpoints. But people stand where they stand on JB, and that’s ok.

Your post is an example of the negativity I am talking about.

I have no problem saying a team played bad. I have a problem jumping from a bad performance to conspiracy theories about how our coaches don't know who the best players are, and have stopped even trying to recruit better players.

The part I bolded seems to infer that maybe we aren't better because the coaches helped the players improve over the course of the season and that maybe Boeheim just didn't know who is good and who is not (until he suddenly figured it out at the end of the year).

I've seen it expressed a lot more openly than you put it many times on this board.

It's true we will never know for sure, but, D1 coaching is a highly competitive job that pays millions. I have always inferred because of this fact that every coach who reaches this level can at least do the basics of the job -like evaluate who the best players are and put together a good recruiting pitch.

Jumping to the conclusion that the second winningest coach ever to do this highly competitive job can't do the basics of the job and recognize who his best players are seems over the top negative to me. Especially when there are other good reasons for our struggles this year, like our starting center playing 4 total minutes and our best player having to miss 7 weeks in-season due to covid protocols.

With all due respect, you are saying certain things about sufandu’s post that I am not seeing that he said.

That's a good point and an even keeled take.

Well crap! Now I have to like this post too. I feel like Oprah giving out “Likes” to fans from other teams coming here to say nice things about Buddy. Makes me feel guilty for wanting SU to beat their teams. Who left the door open?
