Buddy Boeheim such a great kid

Buddy is the “anti-Devo” in terms of on court persona.

They both are intense competitors, but Buddy kills you with a smile.
Haven’t seen him taunt or trash talk an opponent yet.

I’d imagine that it’s hard for opposing fans to hate him.

(Which I always thought odd about GMac - he was DESPISED by most other fans)
I think because we have no rivalries in the ACC. Gtown, uconn, nova hated any cuse player. Nobody cares about Syracuse in ACC. If buddy nailed a three at the buzzer to beat duke i think they would start hating him.

Good point. We need to have enough success to be hated. Through most of our time in the ACC we've been an afterthought.

Nobody here hated this team, we were just not fun to watch, and earlier in the season Jimmy was coaching very poorly thus opening up criticism. So what has changed ? Obviously, buddy stepping up to play at a star caliber level is huge. But equally huge is the contribution from bench guys now given a role. When guys like kadary, Jessie, and bras contribute it not only makes it fun right now, but it gives fans optimism about the future.
This year has been a roller coaster for all teams. It is obvious that Kadary needed to play more earlier and still needs to play more. As to Edwards based on the Miami game it looks like he was more ready than not. Bras who knows. Bottom line many on this board, long time analyst, past players etc.. All saw the Kadary situation and some Edwards. As to Buddy he was shooting less than 20% from 3.
The team came together over time and also once these three subs began to see meaningful court time. Maybe thats just a coincidence. Maybe they suddenly blossomed. Maybe they improved in practice, got in better shape, overcame injuries, covid, or maybe a stubborn coach came around. Regardless the team has jelled and Jim is coaching like the HOFamer he is.
Lets win this one and enjoy the ride. Go Orange!

maybe when Buddy was shooting in the 20% range his coach knew it was because Covid knocked the stuffing out of him (as it did to Joe G). The kid is a great shooter. He was a great shooter three months ago. And any long time analyst, past player etc., should have realized it by just looking at his stroke.

As does the university. Why do you come to a sports message board? Are you expecting to come here to only see everyone kiss the feet of the players and staff? It's not as if critiquing players and coaches is a new thing. Whole industries are based on it.
Social media has become very corrosive on many levels.

Yes he is a very good shooter who wasn't shooting worth a dam and needed to sit. Dont you agree?
I mean sitting last game didn't seem to hurt his shooting.

I think he should never be playing 40 minutes a game. And I have said so. My biggest issue was when JB put him at the 3 to keep him in the game. Griff can't play the 2 but Buddy can play the 3? But that has nothing to do with my original point. Buddy is a terrific shooter and was when he was playing after covid and not hitting them any better than I would have. There were plenty of people here who didn't think he could shoot or play at this level. And they couldn't have been more wrong.

The only other disappointing thing is who do we want to be our rival in ACC? Duke/UNC have their rivalry and we will never push into that.
Who is left? I would love to have one with Virginia but we need to actually win a few games against them. geographically it would be BC and Pitt...no thank you. It feels like to get a rival we would need to take a step down with like a Clemson, VT or NC state. Maybe Louisville if they had pitino but there isn’t any history there with Chris Mack.

There have been many posts wishing JB would retire! Does that count as “hating”?
It counts as hating the fact that Boeheim is still the coach when they are feeling sad about the team not dominating the ACC in the early going. That kind of hate is born of ignorance of 1) the challenges a coach must face and overcome to mold his team into a competitive unit by the end of the season, and 2) just how gifted Jim Boeheim is at developing a team with so little time to do it.

So no, the charge isn't that Boeheim critics are carrying around a burning hatred for the guy personally, but rather that they hate how 1) their supreme wisdom as fans isn't being recognized and 2) in spite of all their efforts to make it happen, Boeheim has still not been pressured into retirement.

And the 2010 team was one of the most fun teams to watch and very likeable.
And don’t forget how we were embraced by the media in 2016. Oh wait, that wasn’t embraced, that was a chokehold. Never mind

Buddy is a great kid and we’re playing well and have an enormous game today...

I said preseason that I thought this years team could be the more “typical” Syracuse team: top 4 in the ACC, top 4-5 seed, ranked, sweet 16.

Things didn’t come together nearly early enough for most of that to happen. But I do think we’re playing at that level now. Hopefully it will be enough to do the sweet 16 part. And then hopefully we can build off of our strong end of season play and be “Syracuse” all season next year.
I did too. But then we lost a KEY element of that optimism, Sidibe, 4 minutes into the season.

At a time when Boeheim's critics were caught up in a fever of group-narcissism finger-pointing, blaming his failures for the team 'underperforming', Boeheim was actually carrying out one of his team-instruction miracles, coaching the hell out of his team, developing them from failure and self-doubt to masterful perfection for their talent level.

The irony is incredible...

Agreed. We needed a center in there...

..and/or a better defensive guard to protect the lack of a center
..and/or a better defensive forward to protect the lack of a center
*sigh*

its like the lineup of doom doesn’t still exist for some people. Somehow the defense improves when that lineup is changed. It’s magic

I'll echo what my fellow UVA fan said about Buddy and Syracuse in general. Wishing you all the best of luck in the remainder of the tournament.

Any UVA fan who is ready to call it quits on Bennett because of a couple of first round exits is trolling or legitimately idiotic. First, we could not get a better coach to come to UVA if we did get rid of Bennett. Second, he won us a national championship, a feat I never thought I would ever see for UVA basketball. Finally, he's turned us into a program whose floor is a first round NCAA exit and whose ceiling is a national championship. I doubt there are many programs that wouldn't exchange their last 10 years for UVA's last 10 years.

Getting ranked again and not being on the bubble year after year. Not that translates to long runs in the tourney.
Watching the game on Friday was fun to watch. Not that all games will be blow outs but going into games expecting to win rather then hoping to pull out a win would be nice. Seems like lately it is the latter.

Indeed. The typical usual suspects making things personal, labeling one negative, etc. is such malarkey. You know what, stay on frigging point and simply debate in a good spirited way. It isn't personal. When one has to default to such afterwards, it lessens their argument and also speaks for itself relative to their own demeanor, etc. vs. simply agreeing to disagree.

Friday night was awesome. Let's see how things play out. Perhaps, another unexpected run will ease some of the significant frustration many of us fans have felt over the past 6-7 years. Which is, consistently being a middling/middle of the pack team in our conference, perennially being on the bubble and not ranked in the Top 25 during the regular season come January since 2014.

I was as angry as anyone else how we played through January, but I really think Buddy getting Covid wrecked the first half of our season. I think had he been healthy we may have finished with a similar record as FSU and UVA and he probably would have averaged 20 plus ppg with close to a 50/40/90 line.

I will say JB did screw up early on by not playing Braswell and not trusting the bench overall, but the team we have now is anything but mediocre. I believe at one point we had a KenPom rating near 60 and that’s steadily been rising to the mid 30’s as of now.

Woe is me

Over a season, that was the most fun I had watching SU. Such a great team. Played basketball how (IMO) it should be played. Everyone had a role and they all played to it.
The zone, in the half court, put as much pressure on the offense as any man-to-man.
Our fast breaks were generally run on passing, not just dribbling.
Just a great team and seeming great bunch of young men.

Just some morons on our home boards. They could honestly be VT fans masquerading as UVA fans and trolling. We’ve won 6 of our last 7 NCAA tournament games lol

They would do such a dastardly thing? HeHeHeHe

Not to mention how many ACC titles, seems like you have won it every year since Syracuse joined the league.
I think Boeheim said something like he would take Tony Bennett over any coach in America
