I love McDermott but his challenge decisions are up there with Babers and clock management
 
How was that not a TD, caught it, two feet down .. then it’s knocked out. Is the rule not different in the end zone? You don’t need a “football move”

Yup. If it was a 4th and inches spot issue in a pig pile of 100 bodies and no visible football, he’d have run to the 50 yard line logo with the challenge flag

I think it was the right call. Or at least it wouldn’t have been overturned:

c. after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.
