Buffalo Bills 2025 Thread

See some mentions online that Beane said he wants a CEO type of HC? Kinda feels like they want to go the experienced route then, which cuts the list down to some pretty scary options.

Probably eliminates the 30 year old Webb Davis.

Greeny is annoying, but can’t say I disagree with him here. It appears as though they fired McDermott with zero plan actually in place and you’ve got an owner up there rambling, throwing people under the bus and signaling that the GM is going to be calling all of the shots.

I think Pegula was pretty straight forward that he fired McDermott with no plan in place. He certainly didn't dance around that topic. He saw the locker room Saturday and decided to fire McDermott and he did. Not sure how much Beane was actually involved as far as influencing the decision. Whether one chooses to believe it or not well I guess that is up to the individual but it sounds like the classic older powerful billionaire owner just acting as if it were any other business that he owns or has owned and not really thinking it through all that much. It his team at the end of the day. The Bills have the same options that every other team has at this point and not sure it's all that great of a hiring pool.

I still think Daboll gets the job because that is who I think Pegula will hire. Not sure he will love some of these younger hot shot OC types but we shall see. And again, it might work but it could very well be a disaster, Pegula himself said it's a risky proposition. we shall see

Well the twitter people are going to try and turn it into some big awful thing because that's apparently important for them to do with their lives. Same people responsible for making Stephen A and Skip rich and ruining all sports talk shows and radio.

At the end of the day, people sometimes forget who the most powerful person is within an organization. Come hell or highwater, they all work for Terry and he made that very clear here on Monday. He fired McDermott the same way he has probably fired countless executives that have worked for one of his companies over the years. That is pretty apparent. Pretty safe to say he "doesn't blink " either if he did he wouldn't be an NFL owner and nor does he care what 99.99% of people have to say about it. Is what it is.

Onto the next coach

If we want to do the Tampa/Dungy thing lets just go all-in and give the 49ers a 1st for Shannahan - 1yr left on deal, rocky relationship w Lynch, easier division here. Maybe it's a pipe dream. I am in a dark place with all these names being reported. Might have to check out 'till Sept or at least April.

It's not as insane as it sounds as he has only 1 yar left on his deal. Now I doubt SF would be remotely interested and would probably want a hell of a lot more then just a 1st rounder but I'd definitely give them a call.

Not accurate, he said they are open to anyone and everyone. Mentioned old coaches, new, Offense and Defense.

Not caring about what 99.99% of people think isn't a great way to live your life or run your business (or, as we're seeing, a country) so far as I can tell. And, not for nothing, the most powerful person in an organization can also be the person holding the organization back the most. See Jones, Jerry or Steinbrenner, George (at least until he found cashman and Gene Michael and stepped back from his involvement).

And he was so upset after a game josh allen blew with a team limping to the finish line with a boatload of injuries that he fired the head coach. But he was cool with that same coach blowing a game he led in KC with 13 seconds left?

And, no matter what any of us think about the decision or Pegula's aptitude as an owner, walking up on a podium and lobbing grenades at players on the current roster and a guy who built a tremendous amount of good will in the community, had a terrific relationship with the absolute savior of your organization (Allen), and had quite a bit of success the past decade while simultaneously not being able to offer even a general outline of a plan going forward AND showing unwavering support and promoting a guy who seems like a and has a really uneven record in the draft the past three years (at least) is embarrassing.

You want to prove you're a big shot? cool. You want to fire McDermott? Cool. You want to hitch your wagon to Beane? Uh, ok. You want to make rash, emotional decisions? I guess you're allowed to. But to not have the sense to put a veneer of professionalism over the top of it? I think you just inadvertently showed us why Josh is unlikely to ever play in the super bowl, much less win one.

You wouldn't have said that during the seventeen year playoff drought. Missing the playoffs sucks. Being relevant in December and January is a blessing.
True but I had a lot more free time in those 17 years. Check in on the bills now and then, assume they would end up within a game of .500 and move on with your life. There was a certain freedom in that.

Bang on. Should've at least started the process after :13 until a Jim Harbaugh or Ben Johnson became available. Worst time to buy a car is when you need one.

I saw a thing on the Internets that Jessica Pegula once fired her long time coach and then went on to her first Grand slam final the following year with her new coach. Just saying.

Too much of a power for beane to be comfortable with

I think we all became spoiled and stupid. Our roster has 1 real hole(WR) and we think the GM stinks because we don't just have every position loaded up. Been fighting with friends about this. We are so hyper focused on one team that we don't realize that's how it goes for everyone. No team is without holes and every GM blows premium picks and FA signings.

Roseman is considered the gold standard and the deal he gave to Bryce Huff a year ago was all-time bad. In the last 6 years to try and fix their WR problem, he took JJ Arcega Whiteside in rd 2 which was awful, a year later he then takes Jalen Raegor in Rd 1 which is catastrophically bad considering who went with the following pick. Those moves go so bad that he then has to use a 3rd to trade up the next year to get Devonta Smith at 10 and the only reason that was possible is because they were garbage in 2020 and went 4-11-1 so he was starting out at pick 12. Another year later another 1st and 3rd spent for AJ Brown. So the guy who is considered the best GM in football blew through 3 1sts, a 2nd and 2 3rds to try and fix that hole plus hand out giant extensions. I don't think any of us would sign up for that set of circumstances though we would for the end result last year.

So far Beane did a great job brining in Beasley and then Diggs and got rid of them at what appears to have been the right time. Just hasn't been able to backfill. Shakir is an absolute gem in the 5th. Kincaid is a potential difference maker if he could ever play for 2 months straight. Keon appears to be a turd and so are Worthy, Mitchell and Polk who were 3 guys in that range that everyone wanted one of. I don't recall a lot of love for Pearsall or Ladd who are the only 2 that have had much success from that 2024 20th-40th draft crop of WRs.

FA wise it's mostly been strike outs of late. Samuel went from being a pretty solid gadget guy in Carolina and Washington to essentially worthless for us. Palmer seemed like the highest ceiling guy of the mid-tier FA WRs this past summer and he ended up worthless. The cheap attempts on reclimation projects of other teams garbage hasn't worked out with guys like Moore. No one seems to remember that there was no one available that was anywhere remotely close to being a difference maker in the WR group. The top was Godwin, Adams, Cooper and Diggs. 0 of those guys made any kind of sense besides maybe Adams but a 32 year old at $20+ mill a year is a little nuts for my liking but he sure would have been nice to have on Saturday. That being the top group is gross and the next tier is even worse. 5 through 10 in the NFL.com WR FA rankings were Hollywood Brown, Slayton, Mike Williams, Elijah Moore and Keenan Allen.

So given that, how in the world was the WR spot supposed to be adequately filled? We had pick 30. The only guy that went in the 20s was Matthew Golden who did nothing. The rd 2 guys were Jayden Higgins at 34, Luther Burden at 39, Tre Harris at 55 and Jack Bech at 58. Would any of us trade Hairston for Higgins? I might but then we have a horrific need at CB again. None of the others in that range would have made a difference this year or likely in the future unless Burden matures and becomes something but he was a WR4 this year.

Given those were the FA and Draft options for the 2025 offseason, I just don't really see what the bright blinking option was to fix WR last offseason. I thought it was a borderline miracle what he actually made happen with getting all the young guys in on defense which looks like it could be a jackpot outside of Landon Jackson.
Your comments about Roseman could apply to just about every GM. There are always plenty of swings and misses. You didn't mention the successful moves. How about taking Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round? Was taking an Australian rules football player in the 7th round and then watch him turn into a pro bowler a few years later a good move? Took Jalen Carter after numerous clubs passed on him in the 1st round. Picked up two pro bowl corners with the 23rd and 40th picks in the 2024 draft. Milton Williams with the 73rd pick in the draft. I could go on and on but when I look at Beane's draft I see a whole lot of mediocrity.

Webb? The guy hasn’t even been a coordinator . He’s Allen’s best friend . We really want a coach who is the QBS best buddy ?

Hyperbole in here but man…

Has missed similar throws in the last two playoff losses vs KC. The hardman throw was bad .. the missed two pt conversion vs Philly was bad . The horrid fumbles vs Philly and vs den Denver were really bad. 0-7 in OT. Let’s just be honest about it. He’s a great QB but a notch below the all time greats .
