Buffalo Bills 2025 Thread

This is not the throw to criticize Josh for IMO.

Sure there was a chance he could make it but it was VERY close to being a game ending strip sack.

The throw to criticize Josh for more was the one to Hardman in OT.
That one was the one that made me freak out. But then reading Joe B's review, he believes that Hardman took it too deep and wasn't where he was expected to be. Just really sucks that Gabe and Shavers both went down or that's probably one of them in the correct place. Game of luck.

I'm still trying to digest this mess. I have been a Beane supporter for the most part but in reflecting on some of the moves, I wonder now.

1)Trades with Minnesota to gets Diggs...Minnesota takes Jefferson who I would have taken in a heartbeat over Diggs.

2) Strangles our cap by overpaying for Von Miller.

3) moves up in the draft to take Zay Jones (2nd rd).

4) drafts Elam with first round pick.

5) gives up a 3rd to get Rasul Douglas midseason.

6) ultimately he is the one who drafted Coleman.

7) gave up a 3rd and 7th for Kelvin Benjamin
Some context for each of these points.

1. Was a no brainer trade and worked out great for both parties. Saying now you would have taken Jefferson is extremely easy. The best GM in football had the pick directly before the Jefferson pick, had a giant WR need and actually drafted one and he took Jalen Raegor over Jefferson so I'm pretty sure saying you'd have taken him in a heartbeat is either ridiculous or you should be making millions of dollars a year as a super scout.

2. Miller had just made game winning plays in the Super Bowl in the last game he had played prior to that contract. It looked like a great signing as he had 8 sacks in 10 games which would put him on pace to be the highest since who, Paup or Bruce?

3. He wasn't in charge of the draft in 2017.

4. Turned out to be a terrible pick. It's not like any of us complained about it. He took a guy we expected to go in that range at a position of need and the guy was a bust. The real complaint is he may have got outmaneuvered and settled for Elam after KC jumped us and took McDuffie. Good chance that Elam was a preference of McDermott to fit the zone scheme better as he's 6'1 vs 5'11 for McDuffie. Bad move no matter what.

5. Excellent trade. No complaints.

6. Needed a WR and the ones going in that range were Xavier Worthy(bust), Xavier Legette(bust), Keon(bust), Polk(bust), Adonai Mitchell(bust) and the 2 white guys that no one wanted who ended up being the 2 best, Ladd and Pearsall.

7. Go look at the production that Benjamin had his 1st 2 years. He seemed like a stud. Had 2000 yards and 16 TDs in those years to save you the time. I don't know what the hell happened and he just became a bum after it. I had no memory of him being that awesome early, seems crazy.

I just don't think he's done a great nor a bad job. I think he's perfectly fine as the GM and almost everything that he's done has made sense at the time. The only thing I probably hated in the moment was the initial Knox extension.

Beane has been an OK GM to average. Not the hot shot genius that some made him out to be early and not the turd that many feel he is now. That's how I see it, he's neither Big Baller Beane nor flaming fecal matter. I would have been fine with him being shown the door as well but not what happened

Diggs was a known pain when he was with Minnesota. Jefferson's production at LSU was staggering. He dominated top college teams like I hadn't seen before. The minute I heard about the trade I was disappointed, not hindsight. Not to mention the younger player is likely going to impact your team longer. In the end Diggs was just a headache.

The Bills gave the 32 year old pass rusher a 6 year 120-million-dollar deal. Tying up that amount of money for a 32-year-old NFL player automatically limits what you can pay to plug other roster holes. Again, when the deal was announced I thought it was way overpaying. Even after Miller took a pay cut, we never received adequate value for the contract imo.

My mistake on the Zay Jones pick. He was a Whaley pick.

You should be a GM. Every GM makes mistakes and guys who have mock drafts are always right, just ask them!

The Von Miller contract was structured as a 3 year $51 mil guaranteed contract. Very similar to what Chandler Jones received from the Raiders that year.

I will never fault Beane for taking that swing, had Von never torn his ACL it would've worked out.

Beane took a big swing to try and get the edge rusher they needed to try and win a SB, it didn't work out with the injury. Hindsight, big risk/ reward. Like losing both the guys they brought in this year as well. Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game

The dumb NFL OT rules still are an issue.

College rule is better for fairness.

Lineup at the 50 and go. You get a reward for a good kicker, the D has a chance and the offense does do.

The current system still leans towards the team that gets the ball first on field position and a 2nd chance to win.
It's kind of funny because pretty much everyone picks to kick off in OT.

yes they do because they want the 4th down knowledge built in. Teams go for it more now, Fgs are kicked from further out, and no one really handles the new kick off rules adding 10+ yds either.

Yeah I get why they do it. Not really convinced that's more valuable than likely having more possessions to score.

Agreed, you don’t fly to meet someone unless you have a lot of interest.

I wouldn't read to much into that. They wanted to get out of Buffalo with the storm. They are meeting a handful of guys in FL including Udinski

I agree. I think they are using old logic when the game has changed a ton with the new kickoff rules.

I definitely see that, but at the end of the day Hardman was still open and Josh had a good pocket to hit him.

The margins in the NFL man...

Agreed on them going down there, makes sense with the weather coming. Nothing wrong with casting a wide net and getting the interviews done as quickly as possible. In addition, more candidates will be available Monday as well so they need to go quickly as they are certainly playing catch up to other teams with openings. Most likely Webb and maybe Kubiak who I am sure will get looks Monday or Tuesday they may not want to wait for Kubiak if they feel they have their guy prior to that as well. If Josh is as involved as some are alluding to, I still think Daboll as HC with Webb as the playcalling OC/ QB coach is the most likely outcome. Udinski would scare the hell out of me but is a real wildcard. The thing about Udsinsky is he isn't the play caller at Jax, he may be goes that route as opposed to staying at Jax where Coen calls the plays, no idea.

If the Bills were to actually win a Super Bowl, Daboll would be the coach that almost all people would love to see them win it with, obviously nobody would care who the coach is if that was the outcome but the story would be by far the best
