Buffalo Bills 2025 Thread

Shakir extension reached 4 years 60.2 million with 32 mill guaranteed.
Contract is below most projections and seems like a home run for Beane and the Bills.
I also think with contracts like these, the athlete comes off as a reasonable guy that was happy with the guaranteed money, doesn't want the distraction. Every player is free to do what they want and handle their business as they see fit but I am sure Shakir is the driving force behind this. I am sure his agent was well aware of his market value and Shakir knew he could probably draw the negotiations out and eventually get a bit more money but obviously not in his nature. Win/Win for sure.

You can also go the James Cook route if that is your preferred way of conducting a contract negotiation. Would not be surprised to see Benford next to get a new deal

Good money
A QB that trusts you
You are not a #1 so you don't get the best DB
probably more guaranteed money with less on the top. Trade off.

If I'm Beane I'm making it a priority to go get DK out of Seattle. He's exactly what they want/need out of the X receiver

Crosby is off the board and not sure how realistic Garrett is, if you're looking for a splash move DK is the next best thing

Seattle wants a 1st and a 3rd for him? LMAO no thank you for that price. He also wants top 5 receiver money despite finishing in the top 15 in receiving yards literally once in his career.

#2 round and maybe a #4 from next year
Extend at a rate in bottom half of top ten WR. Bunch of guaranteed money. Otherwise no.

I doubt they get package but they might as well ask for it

12th in receiving yards since his rookie year and he's never had a QB like Josh

Almost certain that's how Beane would structure it. Have his cap hits the first couple of years be mostly guaranteed money, then have the later years be high in base salary that can be restructured to lower the cap hit. Add a couple void years to lower the overall cap hit

Yeah but since his rookie year there’s been a lot better, more productive WR’s that have come into the league.

I think they can find a cheaper deep threat than DK. I would put all the money on the defense, all of it. Josh will figure out the rest on offense because he is that good. Yes they probably need a deep threat but find someone cheaper. The defense simply needs to be better in the playoffs and the D line in particular.

Agree. Josh supposedly has pushed for Hollywood Brown a Chiefs FA. Oft injured deep threat. And take a shot at a later round WR.

Shakir and Bernard all set, now have to square away Benford and that's a hell of an off-season. I assume Cook will have to wait till next offseason because Buffalo isn't paying him 15 mill a year and they definitely aren't doing it this year. Good job by Beane to get these deals done now and at reasonable rates.

Cook can make some nice runs. But you could replace Cook at 25% of the cost and barely see a ripple in output from that spot. He isn't Barkley or Sanders out there running around.

I used to think that . Not anymore. He’s a game changer and home run hitter that is not as easily replaced as recent RBs we’ve had. His speed turning on the outside and outrunning tacklers with angles is crazy .

last yr Cook had 7 20yd+ runs. 12th in the league 20 guys had 6 or more
last yr Cook had 5 30yd+ runs. 5th in the league 11 guys had 4 or more

he was 22nd in 10yd runs
Davis in half the carries has half as many 10yd runs but no home runs.

So pretty much when he hit one it went bigger

the question is does 3-5 more plays a season justify 10x the salary. Johnson and Davis with 50 less carries between them had 3 less 10+ runs. Johnson actually per carry had way more 10+ yd runs.

I gotta admit not sure how I feel on this one. Rousseau had played pretty well especially on the edge/against the run, but hisbpass rush dies dissappear for long stretches. I'm caught in between on this.
I'm glad you said that, because that was my initial thought also. I think he's too inconsistent also. We need to get better to compete with KC and the Eagles. Not sure running it back with the same pieces accomplishes that, but there's still lots of offseason to play out.

I’m sure I feel that this is an overpay. Of course I’m biased by the fact the last game I watched him play he was mostly on the ground and allowing mahommes to run like Mike Vick

Cook is good, not great. He’s probably the 7th to 10th best RB in the league. He doesn’t offer much as a receiver as other backs do. Davis and Johnson are good backups so it would seem the Bills will have a decision to make when it comes to the money.

I think it's a good deal. He may not be a Garrett/Crosby/Bosa/Parson in terms of game breaking pass rush ability but he's in the next tier of guys.

And it's not like he's being paid like those guys...

I think I saw spotrac had his estimated value on the open market at 4 years $100M.
