Build your all-time College Basketball lineup

Alright, now can we talk about this Jay Bilas absurdity?

He might edge out Craig Forth and Pascal Chukwu for a spot here, but upper mid-tier Orangemen like Otis Hill, Conrad McRae, and Daryl Watkins are eating his lunch.

His best season he averaged 10 and 6!!!! Whoever created this list has to be a Duke fan trolling Uk(who has one player)fans because all of their guys are overrated in the historical perspective of college hoops.

Laettner? Sure

You can convince me maybe on Hill and maybe Hurley... The rest are meh. Jay Williams was a great talent, but he was not transcendent and just another great college player.

UK just has AD?

The Bilas thing is so absurd it has to be some kind of troll/joke (that I don't totally get, to be fair)

I remember thinking Jay Williams was so damn great in college. I hated that Duke team, but I thought he was amazing. Williams, Duhon, Battier, Dunleavy, Boozer. Thats a hell of a 5

Jay was great, but was he better than say, Kenny Anderson? I don’t think so.

As much as a I hate to say this...Replace Bilas with Emeka Okafor and someone(Jay Will) with Kemba Walker.

maybe Jay put this thing together?

Jordan/Carmelo >>>>>>>>>>Redick/Magic

Because of Redick. He’s not in those guys league. There have been lots of Redicks in college hoops.
True.
But...with Magic, Alcindor, Duncan and J. Kidd to feed them...Redick slightly over Hubert Davis is the best available SG for the leftover buck.
And the first 4 guys are probably the best listed at their respective positions (although it would be great to have Elvin Hayes...another guy who played so long ago the people have forgotten how dominant he was).

Yeah, maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. He did win national POY, which Anderson can't say.

But anyway, my larger point (past admitting to thinking good thoughts about a Duke player when I was teenager; sorry about that) is I don't think this list is supposed to be the 5 best PG or SG or whatever. It's just a dumb list to drum up some discussion (it has worked, btw)

Curry
Jordan
Melo
Duncan
Walton

To me, the clear value picks are Jordan, Melo, and Duncan. From there it was either Kareem/Kidd or Walton/Curry. Kidd couldn’t shoot at all in college, and Cal bombed out of the NCAAs, so I figured Walton is close enough to Kareem that I could take him and get Curry.
When Kidd was a sophomore. They beat Duke (with Hurley and Hill) the year before.

My guess is someone associated with Duke put this together, if not Bilas himself.

Jay Williams was a horrible free throw shooter and it cost his teams games.

I didn't just pick who I thought were the best players, I tried to put together players that I thought complemented each other. I also biased mine towards college dominance, hence no MJ even though I consider him the GOAT.

C- Lew Alcindor
PF- Anthony Davis (I don't care that they list him as a C, Duncan played PF in the NBA but was a C in college, so they already played with positions)
SF- Carmelo Anthony
SG- Pete Maravich
PG- Jason Kidd

I had to include the most domimant scorer and the most dominant player in college history which ate up a ton of points. I would've picked Duncan over Melo but then I think I give up too much shooting and I prefer the trade off of Duncan for Davis over who I would've had to take on the 1 point line for Melo. I love the idea of Kidd running the show with all of the scorers around him.

(going back only to start of espn era)
PG - pearl
SG - jordan
- mullin
- melo
C - a.davis

PG - Kidd
SG - Curry
- Anthony
- Duncan
C- Alcindor
With $1 left in the bank.
There is no way to defend both Alcindor and Curry on the same floor.

This is fun. First shot:

PG - Kidd
SG - Maravich
SF - Starmelo
PF - Hayes
C - Davis

Second shot:

PG - Williams
SG - Wade
SF - Bird
PF - Duncan
C - Walton

(I know some of the ratings are stupid and Bilas has no business being on here. It's Friday, don't overthink it)

There should be a dollar menu, then maybe Bilas goes on that. In picking my team, I will start with dudes that aren’t dead first and move forward to dudes that aren’t over 50.

No Wilt Chamberlain?
Went to Kansas for 2 years. Averaged 29.6 and 30.1 points and 18.9 and 17.5 rebounds per game those 2 years. Sadly they didn’t even keep stats on blocked shots back then. Phenomenal athlete.

This list is really bad. There are some great players on it, but I think you could easily build from players excluded a starting five that would destroy any team from the list.

Dozens and dozens of lineups yet only two mentions of Bill Walton. Kinda surprising. Guy won his last 49 HS games and his first 73 college games. 86-4 at UCLA overall. Came within an OT loss to NC State of winning three straight NCAA titles.

When u look at Wilt's stats in the NBA they are just staggering. Averaged more than 48 minutes per game one season. Never fouled out of a game. Still holds more than 90 NBA records.
