I think there are two different factors being intertwined here:
  1. Is Edwards a good prospect who can play at the ACC level, who has value as a long term strategic asset?
  2. Can / will Edwards contribute as a high level as a freshman?

I get that there is a need next year, but question 2 shouldn't invalidate question 1. Bigs often need a year or two to acclimate to the college game.

Ultimately, I think we're going to ride or die with Sidibe / Marek. Really need Sidibe to bounce back, and actually be able to work on his game this offseason, instead of just recovering from surgery.

Or land a grad transfer who can contribute immediately.

I still think we need a grad transfer who weighs at least 240.

I'm hearing from multiple people that Sidibe's health isn't where anyone wants it to be.
If we have no Sidibe then these freshman need to be able to play as we can’t expect Dolezaj to be our C 30+ mpg and have it not wear him down.

It isn't likely that Sidibe doesn't get healthy, but is a possibility.
.

He had the surgery over a year ago, and he was pretty ineffective this entire season.
I'm not optimistic that he gets any better.

It’s definately trending the other way the past few years. The last time Duke and UK were both in the FF was 2015. So the past 4 years the number of McDonalds All Americans has declined considerably. Is that a blip or a trend?

I think the answer to this is that teams comprised of mostly one-and-done's (Kentucky, Duke) lack cohesion. I think you need some roster continuity and seniority in order to have a team able to withstand the toughest challenges. I think Mason's point holds, that you usually need at least 1 or 2 NBA talents in order to make a Final Four.

Sidibe, stay or leave, is not a reliable option on the floor. We have to come to terms with how weak the 5 is right now. We haven’t had a position this weak since Joseph at the guard.

I think JBA is a good prospect, and I’m trying to brush up on Edwards but I’m not going to pretend that Marek lasting 22-24+ mins at the 5 is realistic.

Neither am I, and it’s sad. He’s really shown flashes of what he’s capable of.

If he is going to play 30 min a game then the board needs to pitch in and get him enough nicotine patches to get it kicked before season rolls around.
I, um, I don't think that is really how nicotine patches work.

I honestly think it comes down to whether Sidibe bounces back health-wise or not. If so, then he could play heavy minutes, and probably start.

If not, then Dolezaj plays heavy minutes and Sidibe is a token reserve.

Of course, maybe JBA or Edwards surprises by being ready earlier than expected, a la Lydon or Dolezaj.

But trying to play him heavy minutes will probably break him down.
I'm afraid we're looking at 15 minutes from Sidibe, if we're fortunate.

If we can get 10 minutes from JBA, that means that Marek can only has to 15 minutes at center and can play 10 minutes at forward, where we can get the best out of him.

RS Sidibe, sign the Valpo guy, this guy and/or JBA get time at the 4&5.

Absolutely did. He was a Top 100 recruit (#76 in fact), and he showed well in every all star game he played in.
Also made the USA basketball team for his age(under 17 or 18?). He was under the radar nationally, but lots of Cuse fans knew how good he could be right away.

Finally trending towards Centers who can actually score and not just sit there like a stiff. I never understood why they recruit centers with no offensive game whatsoever, makes no sense. Its like another weapon you leave out of battle.
