Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal to Auburn

K now I like you again.
For you two -

This was always going to be about the biggest bag the rumors at Iowa was that he had a deal in February done for Creighton before the transfer and he quit on the team. I also coached someone on that Iowa team not sure this is an actual loss for the Cuse here.
He sounds shady.

We're not going to turn the ship around without better guys.
We have done it before without the highly recruited players. 2002-2003 we had Anthony (highly recruited), McNamara (Coach K didn’t even know his name), Billy Edlin, Craig Forth, Keith Duany, Josh Pace, Jeremy O’Neill and Hakim Warrick. They all contributed to a winning season.

I think if you lined up this roster to last years squad it’s a pickem. We lost players who were considered more talented but had a coach in over his head and couldn’t get them to play with urgency and replaced them with scrappy players who will at least fight. I’m just not so sure how far “fighting” will get us in the ACC. Our PG averaged 8 points per game at Mcneese, we’re pretty much relying on 2 kids (Doty, Tobiason) to carry the bulk of the scoring at a level they haven’t proved they can yet.

We're also counting on (in addition to Doty and Tobiason) White and Anthony improving with the Sophomore leap, two freshman players (Sibi and MMM) from the European leagues to translate their skills to the high major NCAA game, and depth players to evolve a little (Dual and Goodrick). Throw in an undersized American freshman CG barely ranked 4 stars and we have a lot of unknowns that need to pan out for the roster to be good.

I really would have liked a center that averaged 16 in the Big Ten to solidify the roster filled with unknowns.

There is still time, of course.

Yep, just a lot of unknowns that won’t be answered until the season is tipped off. We shall see.

This is exactly the kind of roster that an excellent coach turns into an undefeated team. :)

I am mostly being sarcastic, but each player on the roster as of right now has extremely high error bars. If GMAC can get 6 guys to reach their 90th percentile performance, we could be really good. Who knows, Sibi, White, Anthony, MMM and Moesch could be unbeatable by March next year.

Even if that happens, we still need more bigs, right now Sibi and Goodrick and White look a lot underwhelming even compared to last years roster.

Agreed and when we were essentially told that Gerry was going to be the hire largely because he'll bring NIL that no other coach we could hire would bring... this is what his dollars brought us? This is not what most expected, which is why some are voicing concern and disappointment so far. There is still time so let's see what happens.

This is exactly what I expected and overall I’m happy about it. I was a Hodgson guy as well. The other way they maybe would appease the fan base a bit more would’ve been proved to be cutting corners and leadership is aligned that this way will not work anymore.

The fact that we made a quasi competitive offer to Wilkins tells me we have budget for 2 more solid acquisitions.

To make the case that we can win without highly recruited players you're referencing a team with the guy that had the greatest freshman season in college basketball history as of the end of his only season, and that was top 2 in his class alongside Stoudemire.

3m. he and tobiason are the 2 best of the 2 years combined.

Yeah, that seems to make sense. Here is to hoping we can find some solid (although good would be preferable) acquisitions with what we can afford.

the budget should be far from depleted considering the current roster and the rumored war chest, no?
