Class of 2015 C/PF Thomas Bryant (NY) Verballed to Indiana

heasaid after his NYC Tournament. Well it's over.is there a national signing date like last October?

The next signing period begins April 15th and runs through Mid-May. The "Signing" day is just the first day in the period. He can give an oral commitment at any point, which is typically what we get when a guy commits. Most of our guys commit before they can actually sign the LOI.

Just watched some of his big game from the other day against Wheeler (Jaylen Brown #2 player 2015), and came away thinking similarly to Jordoo. As this is class is our foundation heading into the probation, would be an excellent piece to have down low. Not sure he's ever an NBA type talent due to average athleticism. But he'd be awesome in our system. He's a true 5 man at this point, but can stretch a defense with his shooting, more son than any center we've played in my memory (Ovcina doesn't count), therefore opening the lane for drives, and the post for a high-low game. He's long (7-6 wingspan) and legit center height, unlike Diagne. And as been mentioned before, gets up and down the floor so much better than he seemed to last year. He would really be a big miss by the staff, if he signs with Indiana, given that he's from an hour away. I hope Malachi was right, and that he sees the writing on the wall now that McCullough has moved on. He should be in the rotation as a Frosh, and balling at the Cuse with a solid crew around him for the foreseeable future. And if he surprises, and is one or two and done, then everybody wins:)

BTW did get to scout this game and Bryant is a perfect 1/2 year center for our system. His footwork needs some refinement and he could add a move or two but backing 6-10 dudes down to dunk! having a huge space eating physical preasance in the middle & being able to be the highman (I love being the highman) in the high low. He would fit with what JB likes to do on both ends.
Be honest and objective, who would you rather have next year if you could choose and only have one- freshman TB or soph McC? Its a tough call for me. McC is a smoother athlete and plays higher above the rim and can cover the wing better imo, his upside is higher . But he barely could convert layups on the bump last yr due to lack of strength. With his knee injury i am not sure that will change much. Yes he should hit the weights during recovery but he wont be playing any real ball so he will be very rusty.

TB imo also needs to get stronger but maybe he will bulk up this summer, hes not the smooth athlete that McC is but he has more ball skills , ability to score down low in traffic and their jump shots are comparable imo. Now if TB comes here he will prob have to play a lot of 4 , not convinced he can cover wing but he would be a great hi lo w a healthy DC, as would McC.

In the end it a close call, i guess i would give a very slight advantage to McC on paper but w TBs nasty attitude and work ethic (that are lacking to some degree w McC) TB may be every bit as good as McC would have been? ...if he can adjust and play some 4.....

And last question, i doubt it and i know this is an awkward question but do you think there is ANY chance McC was advised by coaches to leave , likely knowing it would make room for TB? Especially given the uncertain status of McCs knee and timing of recovery

BTW, when does the signing period begin? I didn't want to wade through all 72 pages to find the answer.

I would have taken a Soph McCullough. Though the knee would be the big variable. In the long run, if this is what allows us to sign Bryant, then it is probably the better situation for the program going forward!

Doubt the coaches asked or attempted to persuade Chris to leave, because I don't think the decision he made was in his best basketball or financial interest, but it was his to make.

April 15th from what I gather

I would differ that he very well could be an NBA player. The bigger you are the less dependent on athleticism you need to be. He has good ball skills, a nice shot, good anticipation but his hurdle will be foot speed and lateral quickness. Hard to say at this point.

Oh well scrap what i said, tb to iu

Goes without saying--a healthy Coleman is imperative.

And at least a couple of the frosh need to be ready to contribute. Unless we are in the market for fifth-year players.

Something I have been considering the last couple of days is that we basically have a much less hyped version of Chris coming in next season. Lydon is at most an inch shorter and perhaps slightly less athletic but he is more advanced in almost every ball skill than Chris was. Shooting, handling, passing ect. The other difference is that although both are very slight in build Lydon does not mind mixing it up and will not shy away or be put off. Granted a healthy Soph Chris projects to be much better than a freshman Lydon assuming he would make the standard fresh to soph improvements. With the injury though that is no sure thing and his timetable for returning was well into the beginning of the season. Taking that into consideration its an easy call for me to say Thomas Bryant. Even without that though to me Coleman is still a question mark until we see him play and stay healthy so another center who can play right away is a huge deal.

ESPN said Syracuse hasn't pursued in months. Not sure if that came from him or badly headlined PS story.
