From what I’ve heard his price range isn’t what we’ve slotted for the center slot. So I hope there’s another big to come in a higher price point.
Cha Ching. Changing 500.

Until we are Cuse again, we have to overpay for what we want...

Imagine if your exwife wanted to get married to you again. Would you do it for $5,000? No. Would you do it for $500,000? Yes, if it was just for a year.

PS I wouldnt marry my ex for a minute for $1,000,000

PPS I obviously have other crap going on today :)

Adam Weitsman sells two of his Skaneateles Lake mansions, including one for a record $18 million

Hopefully some of this 23 mil will go towards NIL. ‘Cuse basketball was better when Weitsman was around.

FWIW, if you check his stats before injury this year, they look much better than overall. 5 pts, 5 boards and a block in 12 mins of gametime. If he averaged that over a full game I think we would be very happy with him.
In Big 10 play, Kyle had per 40 averages of 9.1 points, 4.8 boards, and 3.0 blocks.

I think he’ll be an excellent rotation player, with huge potential upside.

Per 40s really mean nothing, they just exist to frame stats better. If he actually played 30 mins a game last year he could have been better, or he could have been worse.

I'm more concerned he couldn't get minutes on a weak UCLA team and now he's coming here to get more minutes?

If he's the 8th/9th guy in the rotation, I'm on board with taking a shot here. If he's being brought in as our starting center (or we miss our other targets and are forced to play him as a starter) we're in deep doo doo.
Last season we bright in Carlos to be a backup point, and we never got another… If that happens this year, I’m way happier with Kyle in that situation than Carlos. And unlike last year where we had literally no other pure point guards, at least we’ll have a few big men on the team to rotate at center with Kyle.

I fully expect another center to transfer. The other Kyle thread has an insider comment that we’re going bigger for center than even Ballard at this point… That sounds good to me!

It was stated he was injured at the start of the season and other transfers stepped in while injured. Had a hard time coming back into the rotation supposedly. I believe that is what others have shared.

Just read a UCLA message board and most were disappointed losing him and blaming Cronin for not playing him more. They said Cronin didn’t value nor like to play post up guys nor rim protectors for some reason. They remarked how athletic he was. To tell you the truth to me not playing him much didn’t make a lot of sense from their posts. They are hoping they don’t lose a 7’3” player named Mara too. They said Cronin seems to like power forward types than centers. Take it for what it’s worth which probably isn’t much.
Coming off surgery, it might be beneficial to us that he didn’t play much risking reinjury or just not having enough time to recover. With our recent history of picking up injured players who were not able to contribute significantly or at all, let’s hope that Red and Kline did their due diligence in assessing Kyle’s health.

He was averaging 12 mpg before injury. I don't think it made a huge difference either way

Nice pickup? This guy averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds per game. If he is a “nice pickup”, who isn’t?
People can say what they want. If this is our starter, it’s a fail by the staff. We have the foundation with returnees and frosh. This is a 10-15min pg backup. No offense whatsover, slightly undersized and putrid ft shooter

Weak? 22 wins 10 losses, held their own against Tennessee in the tournament. You must have had your head in the sand.

We could play really big, with Ballard, Kyle and Freeman across the front. We would need exceptional shooters at guard for it to work, though. Unless we want to play the annoying mid oughts Georgetown or Pitt “Dump and Chase” offense.

Or Ballard and Kyle can allow Anthony to play with Starling and PG Transfer in a three guard, because they are big enough to cover it in some matchups when Freeman is resting.

I see Kyle as a guy who can get center minutes or power forward minutes, but he really needs good passers to get him his baskets. The one highlight I just saw has him creating his own basket exactly once, and it was a miracle he didn’t turn it over instead. Everything else was receiving lobs or drive and dishes while playing in the dunker position. He didn’t even seem to post up at UCLA.
Sadiq > Kyle

My fantasy of Red acquiring the depth pieces to play fast and leverage a group of players with superior athleticism... paired with some shooters... could be in play.

How they operate cohesively on the defensive side is what I'm most afraid of. This is a good start.

Lost to Nebraska, New Mexico, Rutgers, and Minnesota. Had a few nice wins over Oregon and Gonzaga.

I wouldn't say they were elite by any stretch but their resume was pretty average.

Apologies, I'll change my language from 'weak' to 'average'.

Look at it this way. If the numbers I and a few others are hearing about our NIL/house settlement available dollars is true/close he’s getting about 7% of it. Is that out of line for a kid with potential who’s had success at a lower level? I don’t know.

If its 7%, that's fair, its reasonable. I guess its hard to fully assess transactions when we don't know, and will never know from an absolute perspective, all the financial sides of the equation when it comes to the NCAA. (team and player)

We live in a salary cap world in pro-sports, where the cap is known, and everybody's salaries are disclosed by the CBA. Just a lot more mystery when it comes to the NCAA.

I do think its crazy that higher end NCAA role players (and its not exclusively a Kyle thing here) who only have a small chance of ever being good enough to earn a 2 way contract in the NBA. will actually earn more in the NCAA than a player with a two-way contract in the NBA (60 contracts around $600K each).

NIL keeps players in college. If only they could get more player continuity figured out (but that could be a pipe dream)

NIL does work to keep more player in college as juniors and seniors. If only they could get the continuity figured out (but that might be a pipe dream)
This is a huge benefit to college sports, even guys like Donnie Freeman can probably make more money at Syracuse or other P4 schools than they will for a few years after being drafted.
