Calhoun

As much as I hate the man as a coach of one of our rivals, I hope this is not serious and he can return to the sidelines soon. The more frequent these episodes, the less likely he is to be coaching much longer.

I said during that Gtwon game early in the second half that he looked like he seriously didn't want to be there. Perhaps he wasn't feeling well. I'm no big Calhoun fan but I wouldn't care to see his career end because of illness, hopefully its nothing too serious.

He should have called it quits last year. Could have went out on top. With all of his medical conditions that he has had I am surprised he came back. I guess its tough to walk away but he probably should have done that.

Wish him the best.

I've got a lot of sports hate for the guy, but really, you only have sports hate for the ones you truly enjoy competing with and beating.

Spinal stenosis is narrowing of the spinal column that causes pressure on the spinal cord, or narrowing of the openings (called neural foramina) where spinal nerves leave the spinal column.

Expectations (prognosis)

Many people with spinal stenosis are able to be active for many years with the condition, although they may need to make some changes in their activities or work.
Spine surgery will often partly or fully relieve symptoms. However, people who had long-term back pain before their surgery are still likely to have some pain afterward. Spinal fusion probably will not take away all of the pain and other symptoms.
Spine problems are possible after spine surgery. The area of the spinal column above and below a spinal fusion are more likely to be stressed when the spine moves. Also, if you needed more than one kind of back surgery (such as laminectomy and spinal fusion), you may be more likely to have future problems.
Complications

A lack of feeling can make you more likely to injure your legs or feet. Infections may get worse because you may not feel the pain. Changes caused by pressure on the nerves may be permanent, even if the pressure is relieved.

Not an illness. He has a herniated disc most likely.

no good. doesn't help that he has one of those teams that drives coaches to awful places. we've had a couple in the last decade...

Amen to that. I like to bash on the guy as much as anyone, but these health issues are no joke. I hope he's OK and it's nothing serious.

Look where he is on the wins list. Plus, he is one hell of a competitor. It's not easy to leave when you're on top, as much as people like to say it. In his mind he has so much to come back for and accomplish. He wants 900 as bad as JB. They'll have to drag him away from the court.

Spinal stenosis is a fancy way of saying he has a bad back.

Bad season + back pain = leave.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, I don't think that if UConnvict was 20-1 he would be taking a leave.

Back problems are not fun, and they require behavior modifications to avoid repeated events. It is likely very difficult to carry on activities as required by coaching when even the slightest wrong move could mean lots of pain for weeks on end. If he gets off it for a while, he may get better (for a while). I wish him the best.

Yea I hear ya but after lastyears run he should have probably walked away. Tough to get back to the top and there would have been no shame in walking away. Now it would almost feel like he was coaching just to get to the 900 wins (ala Eddie sutton who had to find a team without a coach to get the last few wins...awful.) I'm not comparing Suttons situation to Calhouns but he has nothing left to prove.

Spinal sentosis

Really? I have that. Had surgery about 10 years ago and was OK after about 3 weeks. About due for another surgery as it is hard to correct it permanently. He'll probably have a laminectomy.

You and I think he has nothing left to prove, but some of these ultra competitive guys don't think like that. He wants a fourth ring and 900, and you better believe it. Why hasn't JB walked off into the sunset? Because he has that fire burning in his belly for this game. He's another guy they'll have to drag away...unless he gets another ring this year, another next, and gets 930 wins. ;)

But the media, who is uber-sensitive to all of this stuff, is going to turn this into "Poor JCalhoun, no wonder the team is nosediving, he'll get a pass for this."

Blah. Feel bad he has a bad back. But c'mon.
