Can we all agree making the tournament at large is the bare minimum expectation this season

Our roster is better than most ACC teams. Besides Duke and Carolina, what other team in the ACC will start two McDonald’s All Americans? We have a center who’s played in three NCAA tournaments and we have the best shooter in the ACC in Bell. We have a 7’4” backup center and a bunch of swing players. This team has experience and depth. I think they will finish between three and five in the conference. Didn’t they finish tied for fifth last year? This is a much better roster and team.

Unless you live in a bubble you would know they overlap all the time. That said you can’t help yourself to be a contrarian on here at all costs. At least you stay in character 24/7. So that’s something.

Mind you my post said nothing about it being wrong to criticize… let’s just make sure that’s clear before you insinuate as much.

but the assumption that if you criticize a players on court/on field play, then you “probably” insult them on social media is a huge leap.

Wake’s roster is unquestionably better on paper. They have at least 2 mcds
doesn’t mean they will be, but doesn’t appear that close to me.

I’m in no way assuming one means the other is happening from every post here. I’m saying there is no place for it. Didn’t think that was controversial. It’s getting read into way too much. Simply put it does happen and has happened and given the various communities overlap it’s a pretty innocent point.

I’m also in no way saying nor have I ever that criticism isn’t part of our discussion here. Already with Eddie there was stuff on social media that got out of hand as there was active frustration here too. So it’s relevant. We saw similar stuff with JG3 when he was here too.

When the season starts we will debate like we always do and flow with the highs and lows whether it’s how Eddie is playing as a hired gun or how Donnie is playing as the prized freshman.

Honestly if we struggle and can’t get wins then it’s heavily going to be on Red’s lap to me. It’s the team he and staff put together this year. Player criticism will come with that, especially those that cost a lot.

Let’s hope the wins come aplenty and we can enjoy the ride to the tournament.

Folks on here are also on social media are they not? We have some 5k members plus lurkers. I’m not trying to belabor what was a simple point that’s getting blown out of proportion. Hopefully no one here is bashing on social media with what is not allowed here. It has no place no matter who is doing it but as we get ready to enter the year just making it a point because we are civil that shouldn’t be any different elsewhere.

I liked watching the film breakdown of Carlos recently (in his recruiting thread).

It didn't really settle anything up in my mind about his ability to succeed playing big minutes for us, but it did clarify his strengths.

Carlos has really good vision and decision making with the ball in his hands. He knows he's not a great finisher at the rim, for instance, so he'll often just keep dribbling under the basket looking for an open teammate.

A lot of his long 2 pointers were designed plays. If they were 3s, I'd be pleased, but long 2s are the worst shot in the game. If Carlos could push to a 35% shooter on 3s, I think he'd be pretty sure to win the starters minutes.

On the other hand, I'm skeptical he is going to be as sure on the handle against better players... Will he be able to get where he wants to be, and get the ball to his teammates in their best spots?

I'm still feeling like Lucas Taylor gets more minutes, on his greater length and three point shooting.

Lampkin, Starling, Carlos, Taylor and Westry are all good passers... I don't think we're going to play a 1 iso and 4 statue offense we had at times last season.

I get the point. I just believe some on this board (not you necessarily) use the awful behavior on social media as a bad faith argument against criticism.

We see it in entertainment, politics, etc. Just because some racist edge lord doesn‘t like some movie, doesn’t mean I can’t like it for a different reason.

Can we rebound, run the break and run an offense consistently well? Can we defend when we need to and make sure and get back in transition?

To me that’s my biggest concerns. Irrespective of who is on the court.

The simple plays that our lead guards ignored or bungled for long stretches of the game last year can’t happen again if we want to win. Especially against better opponents. Defend well and force teams into being one and done. Be more efficient etc etc. The flash is fun when it happens but substance and consistency would be a wonderful thing to see.

Something Red said in the ACC tip off interviews that I hope carries over into helping us win is his point about being more convicted in his “why’s”.

Last years team definitely fluctuated with good habits and bad habits. So getting the same effort game to game, even if there is an adjustment or three hopefully shows. Playing for 40 minutes and not 25 both physically and mentally…

The other choice was to roll with Naheem. People should realize that Eddie having even modest stats is better than the alternative. It's not like we had a second choice we the collectives could have paid half that amount to.

I do hope as we pursue portal bigs in the future that we can target and land those a bit closer to CNY than Houston. One thing about Eddie that’s come out is that he definitely was looking towards being closer to home and honestly that’s almost always going to be more expensive until we are back where we want to be as a top 25 program year in year out.

Yup. Also, the likely need for a point guard AND a center next year is going to be expensive.
