Can we go back to Big East?

ACC is too competitive. Actually we are the only team that did not show any toughness in ACC tournament today.

Bonus question, guess which sports BC won over UConn this calendar year.

BC 27
UConn 19

let it go GIF

I'd only want to go back on a high note. We need to toughen up in whatever league we compete in.

Hey while we are talking about going back in time I have some additional requests. You know what grinds my gears? Cars! Can we go back to horse and buggies as well please? Cars and trucks and trains all suck! When we go back to the Big East, you can take a month in your horse and buggies to travel round trip to our games with Villanova and Providence. That would be great! Also butter...can we start churning butter again?

Because of our budget, I think we can beat the bottom half of Big East teams in bad years. But in ACC, almost every game is a battle.

It’s unbelievable. Every time I go on this board I see this “ Can we go back to the Big East”? Since SU left the Big East two Big East teams have made the Final Four: Villanova and UConn. In that same time four ACC teams have made the Final Four: Duke North Carolina Miami and… Syracuse. In fact Syracuse made-the Final Four twice in a four year span. Maybe we should be wondering why a program that made two Final Four appearances in four years has been on a downward spiral since then.

The Big East that you all pine for doesn’t exist anymore. Even Boeheim said as much in Requiem for the Big East. If you’re that excited to play Butler Creighton Xavier Maquette and DePaul on a regular basis then root for Georgetown. The could use the support. I’ll take an ACC schedule thanks Just imagine if SU turns things around. Competing for conference Championships. Wining conference tournament games. Do you really think you’d be wishing for those exciting games in Omaha Cincinnati Indianapolis and Milwaukee?? As opposed to games at Duke North Carolina Louisville and winter trips to Miami FSU and Clemson?

Things change. I remember when St. Bonaventure and Niagara were big rivals. For the time being SU is still in big time college athletics. It’s up to them to stay there. They could very well end up back in the Big East in a few years. And you definitely will be wishing they weren’t!!

Oh yay, this again.
If we're concerned that the ACC is too competitive (especially this year), it doesn't really matter anymore what conference we are in, we will not be successful.
The conference isn't the problem, the basketball team management has been the problem, most particularly the coaching.

Revenue aside which is a huge (the) factor, The big east is going to get 3 teams in the tourney this year -there’s isn’t even a fourth team sniffing the bubble- the margin for error is much smaller this years Syracuse team is getting smoked by UConn and St. John’s.

Simply stated, “No!”

You are correct that SU did not put up a fight. Guess what, that is one of the many reasons the current coach will not be the coach for much longer.

And talk about soft, you want to leave the ACC because it is too hard. Get that soft ?€qt out of here.

The Big East was better than the ACC in 2023, 2024, and 2025. So before this year it was certainly not a competition issue in the ACC, and we still floundered.

Its no longer the case in 2026 as ACC was much better. Have ACC teams figured out NIL / portal / got the right coaches in, so they continue to stay ahead for a while. Perhaps.

But whether the ACC has taken a permanent step up or not, we still have to go far better than 6-12.

Uh, since Syracuse's first season in the ACC (2013-14), there have been SIX conference members in the Final Four (Duke, UNC, Miami, Syracuse, UVa. & N C State). In fact, in that same time period, there have been only three Final Fours which did not include an ACC team. Five times a conference member played in the championship game and, Duke, UNC, & UVa have all won titles.

Please/ Just stop with that nonsense. And it is nonsense. First, what do we do with our football program. You know, the sport that matters in college spots. Second, what do we do without the boatload of money that the ACC gives us? Third, the old Big east was better than the current ACC. We did okay with that. We need a coach that is not mailing it in or a coach that is over his head. That is what we need. Not to look backwards.

The Message Board Geniuses have already awarded a trophy to this Board for a similar take a few weeks back.

There is no universe where going back to the Big East makes sense given the current realities of college athletics, the new Chancellor's stated goal, and...common sense.

But other than that...

Did SU make a big mistake years ago?

Way back when, SU left a bloated Big East and joined the ACC. Back then there was discussion about this was a mistake, driven by football the financial driving force of college sports. Then SU football was at a very low point but bball was "all right" and thought could be competitive with ACC bball. That last just a couple years and then the decline started. Football is moving towards being competitive but with talk over the past few years of major changes in conference alignment that could change. So again did SU make a big mistake going to the ACC? Did the school misread where it stood in sports, feeling over confident based on past success and not seeing where it really stood in the 2000's, a large school in upstate NY not a destination point for athletes. Now with NIL an even bigger driver, can SU be anything better than a middle of the pack football and basketball school?
