Carrier Dome

Bees, hello Bees... Did the funding fall through or go to other projects? How much was this large donation to be? Thanks

Ah, just saw I missed that post. Must be because I have you in ignore. :)

Yes, it fell through. Do not know why. I forget the amount but I seem to remember something north of $100m. Another poster knows more detail if he wants to share but I can understand if he doesn't.

You forgot about the waterfalls.

Yes,waterfalls, filled with orange beer on gamedays. But,really a central area to congregate, like The Grove at Ole Miss.

Orange beer would be awesome. I would never leave!

We do not have the best atmosphere because football is not a religion in CNY. That's it. It will never be what it is in the south. Ever. regardless if we win 1 or 10 games a season.
Well if I remember correctly, you said Syracuse will never compete for a National Championship in football. (If I am wrong I apologize) At least you are consistent. ;)

I would build a multilevel landscaped with waterfalls flowing banners on all kinds of other architectural bells and whistles on the west end of the doom that that could be clearly seen from 81 and let a corporate entity name something like Pepsi Tailgate Patio at the Carrier Dome.
You been back lately? You can't see the Dome anymore from I-81

BC Place in British Columbia Canada had an air supported roof that was replaced by a retractable fabric roof and it seems to work. It was also built around the same year as the Carrier Dome.

Also, there are only 3 -4 air supported roofs left in North America.

Proof that it can be done and not for 240 million dollars above.
Vancouver gets virtually no snow...not sure it is feasible but it is an interesting concept.

For which of those companies he listed?
All of them, and if you do not think so then I can not alter that opinion, but you would be mistaken. One of the biggest problems was getting people to come to NY to fill jobs if no qualified New York resident was available, if they would come they wanted much more in compensation to make up for taxes and cost of living.

As for unions I can only point to NPG(Magna) union voting down proposed wage conscessions, that still would have been much higher than the average for the area. This resulted in closure and no jobs at all, plus the spin off effect of loss of supplier jobs.

Well you aren't correct. GE did not leave CNY. They sold off their defense business worldwide, which included CNY, to Martin Marietta. IBM sold off part of their business to Loral which then sold off parts of it to Lockheed Martin. Lockheed and Martin Marietta had merged and are Lockheed Martin. Lockheed still has that defense business in CNY in both Syracuse (GE) and Owego (IBM) and in the same plants yet smaller. And where did Kodak go? Their headquarters is still in Rochester with a manufacturing plant.

Its still hard to believe how many people dont use the oldest Dome trick in the book when trying to get around the crowds during halftime. The old up and down the stair method. People were complaining going to the bathroom Saturday because of the congestion in the aisles. The up and down the stair trick worked again and I was able to get back and forth in no time.
I don't get it.

Didn't Kodak just shrivel away?

If people believe kodak's problems had to do with geography... Well so be it I guess.
Who's gonna buy this digital crap??

People enjoy the thrill of dropping off their memories captured on film in a cardboard box at the mall or to a 16 year old kid at cvs...and hoping for the best.

And of course how about the hundreds of people worldwide with their own darkroom?? We'd be alienating that market!!!

Yep, that combined with years of corporate over spending and fat cats on the gravy train with ridiculous retirement incentives. More power to them if they got out on time. Buisness either changes with the times, reinvents itself or they get left behind. Like I said, it has nothing to do with NYS

Shrivel yes but they didn't go completely away. And the point was it wasn't because of any if the reasons I initially responded to. Technology kicked their ass.

I don't know enough about it, but that seems to be a lack of vision and innovation as well - companies have to fight to stay #1. Either way their name isn't going on a "new" stadium either.
