At 3:00 PM today, 1/9/2025, It was announced on ESPN that Carson Beck, QB Georgia is entering the transfer portal. Thought this would be of interest since HCFB was the DB's coach from GA before becoming our head coach. He has changed course and will not be declaring for the NFL draft.

Carson Beck
QB - UGA - #15
2024 - 2025 season
3,485 Yds
268.1 Y/G
Comp Pct 64.7
TD 28
QB Rat 145.3

His 2024 campaign ended in the SEC championship game when he was injured on a sack just before halftime. Beck did not play in the second half, except for the final play when he handed off to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning touchdown in Georgia's 22–19 win over Texas.

Beck was eventually diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow, sidelining him for the rest of Georgia's season, which ended in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals with a 23–10 loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.

A two-year starter for the Bulldogs, Beck took over for Stetson Bennett after Georgia won two consecutive national championships. During those two seasons, Beck completed 68% of his passes for 7,426 yards and 52 touchdowns.

With his experience and success, Beck is expected to attract a big number in NIL, which surely factored into his decision to play his final season of college eligibility.

Further details if I hear anything.

What is his medical status? I think major damage was done to his throwing elbow in the SEC championship game.

I think that may be part of the reason he’s not going pro. I assume he’s gotten some feedback that his injury would severely impact his draft status along with his poor season compared to expectations, If Miami is going to pay him $3 mil+ for his services, he might be able to rebuild his profile and get back to a 1st round pick.

But how soon, and how well, will he be able to play? "Ulnar collateral" was used to describe his injury.

This ESPN article says he can’t begin to throw until March.

Seems like March - August would be enough time to recover. You would think wherever he goes, he’ll want to throw enough to show his arm is good to go for the pros.

Brock Purdy tore his and didn’t have surgery until March 10. He was on the field practicing in late July. Carson Beck tore it almost 2 months earlier than Purdy. I’m sure he will get the best care. His NFL future is at risk.

I watched a few of his games this year and I thought he looked pretty average. He missed guys that were wide open. I was not that impressed with him. His receivers sucked too.
they had the most drops of any team in college football. Beck is average too.

To build on this, the recovery time is also less because throwing a football relies far less on the elbow than throwing a baseball.
