CBS Hot Seat Rankings

They have Dino as a 3 (up from 2 last year). I think he should be a 4 or 5. Edsall being a 5 is funny, as if anyone would care.

Agreed I would think a 4 for sure. I didn't realize that Frost has been that bad, makes you realize that UCF is a pretty damn good job and set up to win

Dino brings more excitement than any coach we have had since Coach Mac. It would be a shame if he were not to be a success at SU. I do not wan tto get rid of this coach,
no one wants to get rid of the man. But I will argue that Pasqualoni brought a ton of excitement to Syracuse. Just because the guy wasn't doing cartwheels on the sidelines doesn't mean he wasn't running an exciting program.

To me Dino is the right steward. My issue with him is structural. Can he game coach? So far, he's been really mediocre in that regard. Is his offense the right one? So far, jury is out. Dungey bailed out the offense with broken plays more than we outschemed anyone.

Time will tell

Um, no. Not in any way shape or form in the late 90's. Super boring football

I don't want to get rid of him either, but if we don't win 7 this year, he'll have 5 out of 6 losing seasons. I have this feeling we'll turn it around. This is a season where we'll know early because of the way the schedule plays out.

Maybe we'll just become a revolving door of unsuccessful coaches but I'd rather try to be a consistent 7-8 win program vs accepting the fate as a 4-5 win program.

or that JW won't want to eat his contract
This, to me, is going to be the biggest issue.

I don't know what the current buy out is, but I'd imagine it's still pretty high. Also, when does the buy out decrease. If the buyout doesn't go down until after the season is over, don't expect any change before then because SU won't want to eat that chunk of change, even if that's what's best for the program.

In full disclosure, I'm hoping that Dino rights the ship this year and gets to 6 wins and a bowl game. I think he represents SU really well during press conferences and in front of the national media.

I miss 2016-2018 Dino, he was fun. I want him and his locker room speeches back. Kinda hard to have good rah rah speeches with what took place in 2019 and 2020 so time for some big wins, dammit
He gets another year imo just by starting 3-0 and beating two ACC peers.

5 wins gets him 2022.

6 gets him a longer leash and continued funding support.

Just my thought

I think a 3 is correct. I think he has 2 more years. Another disaster he goes right to 5 for next season tho

There is much more to it than that, but I'm sure it will be a factor now that covid impacted revenue. Regardless, the "hot seat" debate is not going to sneak up on JW. He very likely has been planning proactively and for the long term, as is his MO. The clear sense from what I've been told, at least prior to the 2020 season/Covid, was that DB would be given the infrastructure to level the playing field. DB is going to be given every opportunity to succeed. Unlike many, I'm not so sure that is going to be defined by X number of wins, or "Bowl or Else" criteria for this season.

I think what tempers the national perspective is that SU is seen as a loser program. That sucks, of course, but it's difficult to say a seat should be blazing hot when one expects that just about every coach would lose here.

I think it'll take an unquestionably awful season for Dino to get canned.

I thought that too, but they have UConn, UMass, UTEP (a UDontCare trio) in their 4 and 5 group, so they were looking at all schools.

But I guess it's because they find 2018 so unbelievable that they think it earns him 5 years. Or else, they know with the extension we'll never pay the buyout.

Lol - give me the most boring team in the nation if it means...

95: 9-3, Gator Bowl
96: 9-3, Liberty Bowl
97: 9-4, Fiesta Bowl
98: 8-4, Orange Bowl
99: 7-5, Music City Bowl

This is the problem with a lot of Cuse fans. 42 wins in 5 years was BORING FOOTBALL. C'mon man!

I think Dino's extension is until after the 2024 season, at least that was the rumor. Does ADJW eat three years of the contract?

IMO it seems from a non insider perspective that we're in a tight spot. The AD wants to raise donations to "level the playing field" (add staff, improve facilities, etc.) but the donations won't come unless Dino wins more games and at least gets to bowl games more frequently.

2 things

1. Every single one of those teams underachieved based on the talent
2. Note the trend of those years.

That G-Rob hire really set us back in immeasurable ways :|

We might be surprised. The really big donors, IMO, will be investing primarily in JW's vision and leadership as opposed to what DB is able to accomplish.
