CCSU Game Thread...

This team needs a punt returner badly.

I'm giving you a like for your avatar alone.

And agree 100%. But it sure would help if we blocked some guys, too. Seems like our PR guy is always swarmed as soon as the ball gets there.

This is a completely new OL. Is run blocking a concern? Yes. Is pass blocking a concern? Yes. We are hoping the OL gels as the season gets deeper.

The run offense wasn't terrible as we got into 21-0. Then we got very vanilla with a lot of dives. We aren't gonna be a 200 yard rushing offense. We just need to run enough to get safeties off the LOS.
What's a bit concerning is that we should be able to be vanilla and push a FCS front seven around. Hopefully the line does gel. I don't necessarily expect 200 yards but we need to get 4 yards a crack from someone other than Dungey to keep those safeties honest.

I dunno man, how can you extrapolate the results against a team that went 2-9 in the FCS last year into 6 more wins against our brutal schedule?

Honestly tonight means nothing. We have a tough game next week against a solid MTSU team. If we can hold them under 400 yards of offense and win by 14+ points I will be very happy.
Next week screams 55-49 game

Think the punter not booming them the same distance as an ACC guy is part of the issue too. Seems like he's not getting hang time or distance.

yep, run game, punt returns, kicker are definitely concerns. Hard to say about our D against this team, but I do think we will be somewhat respectable this year, which is all we need to be right now

Not sure it would be better, but Cordy won the job. Then went down for the game.

Of course, we could always put #97 back out there. He did ok on the first one. Whoever he really was.

Culpepper has a funky / quirky release, but he's completing passes. Interesting PT from him tonight.

Edit -- spoke too soon.

It doesn't mean anything. How we are a 4 win team (which is the post I responded to) based off this game is an even more insane extrapolation.

Before 21-0, Strickland had 4 carries for 12 yards and Neal had 4 carries for 9 yards.

It all comes down to OL gelling. These games are why I like opening against FCS teams. This OL has never played together. Servais has his first career start in the most important OL position. If the line doesn't gel, will we be in trouble? Yea, b/c Dungey will be dead.

But, it's hard for me to be concerned with what has gone on today. Defense was my big thing and they have played well despite losing our best player in the secondary (hopefully for not long).
