CDRW transferring to Marshall

Yes, with the direction we're going at QB -- the injury to Angeli was unfortunate, and puts us in a tough position short-term. But that bad luck with a non-contact injury doesn't change that we're benefitting at the macro level from bringing in better QB passers than players like Morgan and CDRW by using the transfer portal to land guys like McCord and Angeli.

I don't think CDRW would help us. Had he stuck around, he would be like Collins, just two years older.

Collins probably isn't going to pan out. No argument there. Still was a worthwhile gamble, compared to retaining CDRW.

Idk he was thrown to the wolves here. True freshman in 2020, covid year.

Our direction is suspect. It's reasonable to give Collins a bigger sample size but we'll see. Carney looks tiny.

We'll probably be having the same conversion about Jakhari Williams in a couple of years. Another young kid who's film looked good and who can run. He was a solid recruit for this program. It'd be nice to really know what his deal is.

Suspect? We went out and in two consecutive years landed two portal transfer QBs who fit perfectly in Nixon's offensive system, who both were leading the nation in passing. The direction is great.

QB prospects are always going to be a crapshoot. Even highly rated ones. Under this new staff, we hit a home run landing portal transfer McCord, and it looks like we may have again with Angeli. Collins -- jury is still out, but even if he doesn't pan out, we swiftly recruited over him by landing Angeli the same offseason.

The injury to Angeli doesn't invalidate the direction, nor the strategic value of the approach this staff is taking.

Angeli's rating against fbs so far was 72nd in the country

I'm not convinced that factory backup who didn't win job is or isn't the way to go here

Throwing a lot is good but I'm not sure they hit a hr with angeli at all even though I really wish he were still in there selfishly (on top of feeling terrible for him)

Angleli's FBS opponents thus far included playing Tennessee and Clemson -- both on the road.

Getting portal QBs as good as Angeli and McCord was a blessing and probably not the norm.

Angeli only happened after our staff saw what they had in Collins and started making phone calls. The Northern NJ well is dry now to.

Portal QB will be a crap shoot to. Plenty of them are meh. The other kid we wanted who went to Colorado got benched.

I was at the Pitt game in 22 and I think he was worse that day than that BC night game and that's saying something.
 
I mean, I don’t think you can judge based on what he’s doing at a G5 school. There are always G5 QB’s that put up big numbers that can’t do it at a P4. Or FCS etc. I do know that he never looked really comfortable here as a dual threat in a system where another dual threat who wasn’t a great natural passer (Shrader) was much more successful.

Not true -- due to connections to our staff, Angeli's camp kicked the tires about coming to SU via the portal prior to LAST year, but we targeted McCord instead [and rightly so].

This time around, we actively pursued him.

Agree. That was the other game that stuck out in my mind that was about as much fun as a colonoscopy.

Angeli wasn't available in December, when we were searching for a new QB to replace McCord. If he had entered the portal then, we would have taken him then instead of pursuing Collins.

Collins was always a high-upside roll of the die. Angeli was much closer to what we were looking for.

That ranking also discounts the fact that something clearly clicked for Angeli with about 5 minutes to go in the UConn game.

Yeah it is definitely counting the whole season and all the throws, which I think is a good approach
